These are just a little fancier than usual, so I thought I’d post a few pics...

Ziricote/Lutz SJ with ziricote FB and bridge...

And a master grade sinker redwood/cocobolo SJC...ImageImageImageImageImage

Thanks for sharing, them's both real eye candy. wow7-eyes

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Both are really nice, but the top one looks quite, shall we say... embraceable.

I just realized you went from "crap the sides are too thin" to "first chance at double sides" to strung up in 17 days. Holy smokes!!

Ed, those look great! Very nice work. I still have the sister to that sinker redwood here in my office, been holding onto it for a guitar for myself. How did yours end up sounding?

Sounded great! Not for the heavy handed, but I don’t think that’s what redwood is for...

I love that body shape. Really nice woods too, on both of them.

Props of course then to Michael David Payne, who designed the OLF SJ and donated the plans to the OLF.

I have some issues with the internals which I remedy according to my own beliefs, but it sure is a nice shape, agreed!

A pair of Beauties!

I have a very nice set of Zircote sitting in my closet just waiting for me to find the courage to bend the sides, and here you do a Venetian cutaway with style!!!

Thanks!

Joe, it bent very nice at .080, with the cutaway section further thinned to .070. No special treatment...
