I typically buy in lots of 5 or ten from sponsers (1 or two when I'm getting to know the dealer), and would want to sell maybe 1 or 2 sets once a year if I realize I have something sitting on the shelves that I am not going to use. That's not a threat to either the sponsers or to the OLF business model, because both are providing a service that everyone recognizes, and that is far superior to anything us non business sellers could ever provide.
You are right, that is not a threat. But if you multiply that by the number of people on this forum, it becomes a threat. I realize that not all of the members will want to do this, but this is a factor that you have to take into consideration. And the numbers are constantly growing.
One last point, then I'll shut up.

NOT ALL OF THE PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM BUY THEIR WOOD FROM THE SPONSORS!

So, no, we won't always win as you suggest. There are only 10 or so sponsors selling wood on the forum, and over 600 people claiming they build guitars. Those numbers would make some of us very wealthy. I for one am not getting wealthy. No where near it.

I have to agree with you somehow Doug, that is why i suggested a trade section instead of a classified ads or auction. Let me tell you that my stash ain't big and if i ever get to the point of gathering tonewood like Mattia or Paddy, that would mean i'd have wood to trade but not to sell, i'd have a hard time departing from my wood anyway! I have so little!

You are so right Serge. It is hard to part with what you have. Even if you have a lot. Even if you sell the stuff, it's still hard to let a beautiful set out the door.

So, does this affect anyone asking if anyone has "X" wood out there they'd like to sell?

I am in equal parts flattered, disturbed, and amused at being compared to Paddy when it comes to my tonewood packratting.

I'll just sell my few extra pieces on MIMF. The sponsers over there don't seem threatened by the prospect.

I've been trying to keep up with this thread, it seem like it could go either way, lets try to keep it light.

Its quite obvious that we all have opinions an how we think things should be run. While im open to ideas, Brock and I have a vision of where we are taking the OLF and its related sites.
I'm quite sure that what we currently have planned will meet (most) of our needs, and you can rest assured on us to continuing to develop new projects in the future that well serve us all.

To add to what you said Lance, i'm not even worried a bit cause i know this forum is in good hands with you and Brock, i also trust our good community to be patient and understanding of the choices you both will make. Your visions have yielded great success so far in this still very young forum and it all looks very promissing for what's ahead!

Wow, I've been out of town over the weekend and I didn't expect to see two pages of posts. At least it has seemed to stay civil. I, for one, if I ever happen to have something to sell, simply won't post about it on the forum. If there is a auction site, classifieds area, whatever, I will use that.

If the forum is supported by the sponsors, and the makers of the forum wish to keep it that way, I think it is a reasonable rule to not allowing selling of product on the forum if you are not a sponsor.

I just feel that this should be clarified somewhere so all know. As it has been said, over and over, this place is growing (take me, a newbie for example.) If it is not specified somewhere, it will come up over and over, because new people cannot be expected to just "know."
