I've never seen Brazilian on sale at Madinter's website, and they're a smaller player. Maderas Barber's the '500 lb gorilla' of the spanish suppliers, I think.
Yes, it was Maderas Barber, not Madinter, that was the wood supplier that came under the scrutiny of 'Los Officiales' for their BRW sales...

It's one of my favorites. Some of it is so much like BRW, it's almost undetectable. If it weren't for the smell, I couldn't tell it apart.

Jimmy - thats a great set right there!

I've come to really love Madagascar Rosewood, and in my experience it makes for excellent instruments. Its a nightmare to pore fill, and it can be a bit brittle, but those are its only drawbacks.

LMI gets theirs from Nagel in Hamburg. Its possible to get the stuff cheap and resaw it yourself, but it appears Nagel and LMI have some kind of monopoly over it.

Joshua,

I got this stuff from Steve @ Colonial. Steve's great to do business with and has a really good selection of old-growth woods. This one's a two piece back and it looks even better in person than in the picture. I paired it with an adirondack top and I've got really high hopes for it. It's at Josh Luttrell's being finished right now. I'll have it back sometime next week.

I've seen LMI's sets and they are beautiful with the intense spider webbing. They're doing 4 pc. backs because the logs are so small. They must be really hard to get because they're very often out of the highest grades.

Sometime when you're up this way, come on by. There's no surfing here, but we've always got the lake.

It is because I have a serious weakness for this wood.

Yeah, I was just drooling over their specials page too. Tell me, do you guys think a mortgage payment has precedence over tonewoods?

I emailed that supplier mentioned above in europe. It is 200 - 250 to have a few sets shipped to me.

Bummer... this is nice wood too.
