I just wanted to recommend these magnifying glasses I bought recently. I use them mostly for binding work to ensure purfling miters are a close fit - otherwise, my eyes do pretty well for upclose work. However, I like to put my face close to what I'm doing and I always found the Optivisor/Magnivisor style items to get in my way - even moreso when trying to put a spotlight on my work (my shop doesn't have great lighting).

This style is similar to regular glasses - with the lens close to your eyes. I find them to be quite comfortable and the included light actually works extremely well, providing the necessary illumination I need to do fine purfling work without having to direct my portable spotlight on my work area. For how I work, it is such a vast improvement over the alternatives I've tried that it makes do purfling work a real joy - rather than at times, a frustrating experience. They are also priced very reasonably at $20.

Just thought some of you that are unsatisfied with the magnifying visors might prefer these instead.

I plan to order a set, but just to let you know, I don't need magnifiers to see my mistakes. These may scare me when I use them.

Those look great, thanks for the tip. The thing I don't like about the optivisor is the band. I cannot get it to fit my fat head. So these regular type glasses are way better, more magnification too.

I tend to try any new magnifying visor that comes long because my close-up vision is not so great. I have lots of models, with and without lights. The Optivisor is the only one that I find easy on the eyes. Been using one , most of the workday, for at least the last 10 years. I find the optical clarity to be the best for my use.

I've jumped on the bandwagon. I just received one for my birthday from my daughter. (I may have mentioned it at some point.)

This is a pretty cool device. It seems well made. The four lens sets are clear and have good optics. The 1.5x and 2.5x ones are the ones I see myself using the most. With the 5x lenses, I can't focus on anything father than about 4 inches away from the lenses, but if needed they would work. I like that LED light has two brightness settings and can be tilted and that the battery is rechargeable. The visor is comfortable to wear. My only complaint is that the springs in the temples don't provide much inward pressure and for me the forward weight of the visor causes it to slide down my nose especially with the heavier, higher mag lenses. Fortunately it comes with a Croakie-like strap that can be added and that solved that problem. I think it will work particularly well for cutting inlays and inlay pockets.
