Here are a couple Small Jumbo's that I just finished up. The zebrawood guitar I finished awhile ago, I just now got around to taking pics of it.

SJ #17

This guitar was kind of a "back to the basics" exercise for me. I just got so tired of over-complicating things and then screwing it up. So this build is pretty simple, nothing crazy.

Zebrawood B/S
Spruce soundboard (I think it's Lutz spruce)
IRW binding
Black and White Ebony fretboard and bridge
Maple Neck
K&K pickup







SJ #19

This guitar was a kind of proof-of-concept. I started using my CNC more and wanted to see what kind of inlays I could do. The trees and pine cone are CNC routed and epoxy filled.

Mahogany B/S (I have no idea where this wood came from, so I don't even know if it IS mahogany, or what kind... anyone else have that problem?)
Spruce soundboard (I think it's Sitka)
Rocklite Ebano binding
Richlite fretboard and bridge
Asian Mahogany neck

Beauties!

I do have a few sets that are unaccounted for but I typically write with a marker right on every set that comes through my door what it is wand how much I paid for it and where it came from.

That has a mahogany look to it, could be Sepele too. Either way nice guitars.

They are both great looking guitars. As time has gone on I've found myself leaning more to simpler guitars, i.e. less embellishment.

They look great. I really like the zebrawood one. I wouldn't call it basic, I'd call it clean.

I love both of the fingerboards.

What kind of truss rod do you use that results in the cap being so far up the headstock?

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Hot Rod truss rod from Stewmac.

The process in how I located the access is still under development too. If you look at the truss rod covers from all of my guitars you'd think they were all made by someone different. I was just all over the map. I think I've settled on a solution where I just CNC a smaller oval in the faceplate and then just use a slightly larger oval to cover it up.

Maybe someday I will devise a way to do the truss rod access thru the soundhole.

Super clean workmanship!

Love them both, with my favorite being the second. The fingerboard just draws you to the instrument. Looks to me like a dark sky view as seen through a northern black spruce. Beautiful!

Very nice! I build a lot of pointed cutaways and spend a lot of time on the side purflings. Your execution has made me wonder if it is worth the effort.
