A local music store hosts a 4 day bluegrass festival in sept 2021 . This will be the next event . We are considering displaying some of our ukes. Dont know if this is the right venue or not ? Have never attended a music festival for 4 days. The cost is $150 for a table. If any of you have attended one , what is your opinion on the pros and cons of these events . Thanks in advance

I used to attend a lot of old time fiddlers' conventions--some were also bluegrass festivals. At the old time festivals, ukes sold like hot cakes. I'm not sure about the bluegrass crowd, but at $150 for the table I'd say it's worth taking the chance. I sold quite a few banjos at the festivals, and took orders for a bunch more. I wouldn't mind doing it again one of these days if things get closer to normal.

I’ll be interested to hear how it goes if you decide to do it. I’ve been considering making some lower cost (bill of materials) ukes to sell like this. Just to explore the possibilities. I can’t see selling 1K glossy expensive wood ukes like this. Seems not to be the right target audience. Maybe sub 500?

Its in the OKC metroplex. Cancelled this year. 2020, but will reopen in 2021. Walnut valley got my application in 2019 never got a response . Its 2 hrs from our house, Sounds like a closed shop ?? Brad PM me next oct 2021, and I will let you know then . I/ve never attended a festival . an have no clue at this time. as to what sells. etc, there will be banjos fiddles an guitars. there .

Oddly enough, at the festivals where I've sold things, there's been quite a bit of sales of high end instruments, both new and vintage. There's a market for less expensive instruments too, but a lot of the participants in the festivals I've attended apparently have quite a bit of disposable income and good taste...

Walnut Valley is very popular and has been for decades. I met Grit Laskin there back in the late 70's, I think? He remembered when there was a tornado to the west of Winfield and everyone ran up to the top of the grandstands to watch it drift by. My guess is there is a line of people waiting to get in, and old timers get first choice. Of course - they've had two bad floods down there in recent years and maybe your paperwork got laundered and tossed out? Try again, Ernie - or simply attend one and ask. It's great to just walk around and listen. No one ever has a frown at Walnut Valley.
