Ok, my turn!

I bought a ton of wood from a local guy who cut it all up into guitar sets. It's mostly Black Walnut, Mahogany & cedar, but there are a few mystery sets that came with the stash. This is the first one.

My observations:
-Fairly dense wood; close to a rosewood(density)
-has these strange white streaks throughout
-I cant place the smell, bitter like IRW but not as spicy
-Easy enough to bend; lots of spring-back, though

I thought maybe a Teak at first, but it isnt oily at all.
A buddy of mine guesses Bolivian Rosewood/Pau Ferro (I disagree but it was better than my Teak guess)

Looks very similar to some Chechen that I've used. Nice cathedral grain.

Could be Guatemalan mora (which is often mislabeled as Argentine osage orange)

Reminds me of some Merbau we used on a remodel, specifically the white flecking

I’m guessing Cebil (Curupay, Patagonian Rosewood).
I’m working with some now.
Very hard (3600).
Light color when sanded, turns dark fairly quickly when exposed to sunlight.
My plank has white mineral deposits.
Just my guess.

That is ovangkol. The white stuff is mineral deposits in the pores.

I've got a set of Ovangkol that I compared it to and it looks pretty different. Taking into account that trees of the same species can look very different, I wont rule out the possibility of it actually being ovangkol.

Here is a pic of it next to ovangkol (from Stewmac). The guitar has a coat of shellac on it, so it's pretty close to "finished" color.

I was unsuccessful in comparing the smells of these two woods. I think I might have to take a break from snorting sawdust, my sinuses have been sore for two days now.

I would also say Ovangkol, flatsawn, but without seeing it in real life it is a bit difficlut to tell

Not disputing that the white in these pictures is mineral, but I had an occurrence that was white sap. I had a 2" board of teak resawn for a headboard. I presume the board was reasonably old. While sitting in my shop, white sap that looked pretty much like mineral deposits oozed out. It wiped off when I got around to using it. I do not recall if I just used water, or some other solvent.

Markus, I think your last picture demonstrates really well the difference between flat-sawn ovangkol and quarter-sawn ovangkol

I also agree with flatsawn ovangkol. The guitar is quarter sawn hence the difference
