Does anyone know the taper of the Gurian pins we bulk ordered about a year ago?

Thanks

Gurian pins are 3•. I ask them pretty much every time I talk to them because there is a misnomer out there that they are 5•.
But they always tell me 3•

I am still mad at them. We asked twice if they were going to send us 5?
pins, and even mentioned that we read elsewhere (LMI) that they are 3?,
and they twice assured us that we were getting 5?. I think the sales
person had no idea and was the type who just says whatever she thinks
the buyer wants to hear, regardless of whether it's true. The alternatives
are that they really don't know what they make, or that she was lying.
None of these alternatives give me any confidence in ordering from them
again.

I reamed a bridge on a nice guitar with a 5? reamer for these pins before
figuring out why the pins never fit tight. Then I had a problem getting
any pins to fit. Their pins are not nearly as nicely finished as the ones
you get from StewMac, either.

Anyone want some 3? unslotted ebony and boxwood pins? Cheap.

And why does this system mess up the
formatting of paragraphs that I haven't edited when I edit a different
paragraph?Howard Klepper38810.6575462963

I'm confidant its because you use used a naughty word and the OLF formatting Gremlins didn't like it

Did I mention there is no swearing at the OLF? LanceK38810.6191435185

Nope, it happens regardless. But I have edited my post to remove the word
'pissed.' That's swearing? Howard Klepper38810.658912037

Oops, I meant that offer rhetorically. I still have use for them after getting a
3? reamer. But email me your address and I'll send a set of each.

Howard, one thing you can do is put some thick CA on a cotton swab and coat the "walls" of the pin holes. Do this a couple of times and you can re-ream it and you'll be back in business.
Yeah, I remember hearing two different numbers when we were doing that group buy. But every time I talked to them personally they told me 3?. If I'm not mistaken, I think some of the catalogs (LMI, StewMac, etc) list them as 5?.

Heh, don't worry, I've got plenty of slotted pins, Howard, but thanks for the offer ;)

What I remember is this with the numbers reversed. At least that's how you
reported your conversations with them. Maybe my anger at them has been
misdirected and it's really all your fault.

I just talked with Gurian today, well actually Edie at Gurian. She reports that their pins are 5 degrees, says she gets asked that a lot. I have a WHOLE punch of ebony pins that will be here this week or next . They are part of a couple of orders I placed with them about a month ago...so more goods a comin'.

Oh, by the way, if you buy by the gross, mark the year and save a few sets from each new gross you buy, in case one of your clients needs a replacement in time.

Their new pins are getting smaller each year by a thou or two, but enough that they no longer fit right in the older pin holes.

Guess their tooling is wearing.

Time to find a Chinese souce for pins. Betcha the quality would be more consistent. Sad, but likely true.

Man, you sound like my wife.
I've only got a 3? reamer and they have worked great for me. So I'm pretty sure they really are 3?. But then again there could have been some sort of odd misbalance in the Earth's gravitational pull that causes tapers to swell at the points. Who knows.

Well....they should be here soon. I did order a gross so I will see if they are accurate to her specs. She says 5 degrees and .207 at the top of the taper. Good advise though Mario, I will keep some aside. I will let yall know!
