dave, did you post photos of those parlors here. If not you can't mention them. No really I was was just given 2 walnut boards over 1" thick by 12" and was concidering a parlor after my archtop. Or a walnut archtop, or both..

Mike, I posted a couple of pics of one of them. The second was almost exactly the same, except for a slotted peghead.

Walnut is fantastic instrument wood. We make a lot of guitars with it, and it's also been fantastic for tenor ukuleles for tops as well as backs and sides.   It's a joy to work with and looks just great; even the more boring stuff is less boring than mahogany!   The only issue these days is expense.   Walnut has gotten more expensive than Indian roswood by a long margin.

Welcome Karen,
Great forum, I only repair guitars and don't build but I like walnuts if that helps. My wife likes cashews but they sound awful, no bass response

Welcome, Karen:

I also found Walnut a joy to bend, carve and finish. Here's a Parlor Guitar I finished last year... Zootman Walnut.

Hi Karen! I'm so glad you finally joined and brought some female energy. (My apologies if there's any other women here, but I haven't seen any postings by one yet)

Note to everyone else: I am in Sr. Wingnut's class with Karen as well. She is a great person and her first guitar is looking totally sweet!

Yeah, you are kinda like a super hero, Robbie. Your glue spreading device could glow, throb, and shoot glue onto evildoers

Wow!! Is that walnut crotch? If so how was it to work with? Did it lay absolutely flat or a bit of potato chip? Any extra special bracing?

I warned you that I was NOT a photographer. That was a real quicky, taken in my living room a long time ago. Let's try another from a different guitar:

Sounds more like the name of a rock band.

Larry...That set of walnut was the zootiest set that Bob C. had at the time. It was and continues to be as flat and stable as any wood I've ever used. It was thickness sanded to .085"... pore filled with Z-poxy and finished with KTM-9. I used the bracing scheme called for in the Scott Antes plan.

Sometimes ignorance is (was) bliss. Now you've got me worried!!! Should I be worried or has the critical time passed?
