Thanks Dave

Great Concept for your series, and this first one in the series is a gem. I really like the look.

I'm *thinking* about putting together an instructional dvd, essentially on
improv over worship songs at church. Adding to the vocabulary a lot of
us work with, but not over-adding. Just adding a little more voice we can
draw from if we want. Then showing those things over worship songs
rather than weird changes we'll never ever encounter in reality.

I have my second one started and materials for 3 more after that.

#2 is an EIR / Lutz spruce dread. The sides are done, the back is nearly ready to attach. I'm going to try a couple of new things on this one: a double mortice neck joint, and a spalted maple rosette. I'm also going to attempt an inlay on the headstock.

#3 is an all mahogany SJ. I just got my SJ mold from John, so I'm ready to start as soon as I can get back into the shop.

#4 is a walnut / adi OM, and
#5 is a curly cherry /adi OM.

One of my goals this year is to do a more elaborate inlay. I've been thinking of a vine inlay for a finger board.

This will probably take the rest of the year. My job has had me on the road a lot more than usual, so progress has been slow. On the other hand, I really appreciate the time I do spend in the workshop.

I'm working on a matched pair of cherry/sitka dreds for my sons. Necks are finished, FBs inlaid, bridges made. After that I'm starting a curly oak OM with lutz top for my brother. My wife says I have to build a play structure for my granddaughters first, though. I also have to get my garden planted, so it'll take a while to get the guitars finished.

Lots of nice and exciting stuff happening here!

Well here's my modest and real list:

1) Archtop - flamed maple - Canadiana wildlife inlay guitar from hell (long story) - Commissioned and a tad late;

2) Archtop - Rennie MacKintosh inlay theme - sketched out at the Glasgow School of Art - ode to me Scottish lassie wife - (might go out on consignment or replace #4 in da queue so as not to bump customer #3 completion) - ask Tony Karol -- he's seen #3's temper!

3) O - Quilted Maple for my 8 year old daughter (worried as she has big inlay ambition on this one)- PAGING CRAIG LAVIN!!!

Further plans (who am I kidding):

4) Archtop - Commission in the hopper! - see #2 so as to escape the wrath of customer #3
5) OMC - Quilted Maple - friends son -- a deserving great kid and player -- a freebie
6) OMC - Acacia (possible commission) - #5's Dad he gonna have to pay
8) OMC - Koa -- cause I really really want one! And dead last as I didn't place my order soon enough

The foregoing completion timeframe could all be buggered if we purchase a new home or work starts taking me back to Europe this year!

Hey Paul Woolson how are you gonna manage to get two Archie's done for the Montreal show....you must be good and quick!

EDIT POSTSCRIPT:#1 Arnt congratulations to you and family
#2 Hey Karol -- man you are getting lazy --

Build on dudes.... I may be living vicariously through you Anthony Z38813.0193055556

Finishing up:

- my #2, Khaya/Euro Baritone acoustic (yes, STILL the same one; I've done exactly no building at all over the past 5 months)
- Strat+Tele - need finishing, wiring, assembly, setup. Weather is just about there.

Coming up:
Electrics:
- Lefty Kelly/Explorer (talked him out of pointy ESP-type explorer and into the much nicer Kelly. Well, nicer for a pointy guitar)
- Singlecut carved top electric, flame/spalt top (from Ed dicks, inner half of bookmatch is flame, outer half is spalt, very cool)/Black Limba body/neck, iceman/fernandez 'scoop' in the lower bout.

Acoustics:
- Bling/Country medium Jumbo, Walnut/WRC/lots of sparkly pearl
- Cherry/MysteryEuroTop (spruce? Pine? Whatever, taps nice) parlour, probably some rope purfling
- Clone of #1, EIR/Euro, to see if I can improve on the original

After that round's underway: have agreed to build a guitar as a prize for a student-run arts festival, for the singer-songwriter competition. Basic Mahogany or EIR model of the winner's chosing (ie, Parlour, OM-sized, Grand A, or Jumbo), tops either Euro, Sitka, Lutz, Engelman or WRC (if they want redwood, they can pay extra :-P ). They know I don't build fast, but they wanted a cool prize, I can take the hit for 150 bucks (or whatever), no probs.

Maybe you guys could give me a little help on my plan for my next one. I'm thinking about going with Coco back & sides and a Cedar top. What kind of binding do you guys think would look best??

Colby, like John said, light colored (like maple) or really dark (ebony). You want them (bindings) to stand out.

Sounds like some great projects happenin' here!
I am currently;

Trying to get the pores filled on an EIR / Engelmann jumbo cutaway so I can continue the finishing. GRRRRR!

Well into my first Weisenborne (Fun project!) Yellow Sirus with really nice figure.

Sirus & Euro Spruce 12 fret OM cutaway.

And, as soon as the Walnut arrives from Brad... There will be another OM started... Well, maybe I'll give the Walnut a few weeks to acclimatize.

Busy Busy Busy!

I am finishing up on a Dread - Bubinga B&S & Sitka Bearclaw top. This one is for myself, my new toy!

Have two others going for other folks

The second is a Dread with Sapeli B&S with Sitka Bearclaw top and am doing the neck now.

The third is a Dread - Curly Cherry (from the Zootman once he gets it cut) with a WRC Top

Once these are out the door, I have two orders to fill for other folks. Staying busy, having fun!

Mike
