Looks fantastic!

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Plenty more things to screw up ha.

Beautiful! Love the top and purfs. I haven't built guitars with babinga but have some for guitars and have used it for other projects. An overlooked wood IMO and looks great under finish. Hope you post pics when it's all done.

Brian

Very nice. That grain and bearclaw on the top is pretty crazy.

Looks great! So how did you end up bending that purfling for the rosette?

It actually bent really easily. What I did was; cut a channel in a scrap piece the same size as the inside and outside rosette purfling.

Rubbed some water on the straight piece and heated It w a heat gun.

Popped it into the test channel and let it cool.
All done:) much easier than I anticipated.

I also bend the body purfling along with the bindings on my bending machine with no issues.

Actually finishing it is giving me a little anxiety. That top has a lot of endgrain and turn... I’m a little worried about it having a tendency to permaraise. That said I know it can be done:) so ever onward
