Just wanted to share a very cool moment in my shop, life, etc.. that happened yesterday. I had 2 of the greatest living jazz guitarists in my shop for repairs to their guitars. Rodney Jones and Paul Bollenbeck. I set up 2 of Rodneys guitars and Paul left his Guild archtop here for fretwork. It was a coincidence that they were here at the same time. It seems they had not seen each other for a while and it was cool to sit back and listen to them catch up.
While all this was happening I am thinking to myself "man this is so cool I love these guys as players and it is such an honor to do work for them" as I am thinking this my phone rings and it is Wayne Krantz the top jazz fusion guy in NY. He just toured with Donald Fagen from Steely Dan. Unfortunately we got disconected but I am sure he will call me again as I have done alot of work for him in the past. Anyway I just needed to share this as it really helped me validate all my efforts these years.
    The best part is Rodney is good friends with and actually teaches George Benson, he is telling George all about me and wants to bring him by my shop.

Yikes...I better get there for a visit soon before one of those virtuosos gets you to tour with them as their own private set-up and repair guru.

Meeting George Benson would be pretty cool too.   Nelson Palen who posts here occassionally sold him an archtop a few years ago!

I don't know any of those guys, but it's cool to be in the middle of what's happening! Kudos Evan.

Wow, how incredible, that must have been the ducks nuts to sit there and here about some old times between those two!
Obviously the callibre of musicians that come to you are a testament to your talent!
I am a musician, and aspiring luthier - that would have blown my socks off, to have had of been there.
It makes me wonder> what kind of thrill it is to meet amazing musicians if you are only a luthier and not a player??
I assume almost every luthier is at least a bit of a player though, arent they?
Mabye time for a new thread and dumb questionaire from me! Uh oh

Evan, Im glad you liked that,lol, but the strange expressions between Canadians and Americans arent always comic relief.
My friend Kim was once in Alaska, and was in a port town, he's a sailor and an all round nautical enthusiast.
While was chatting with a group of big boy fishermen, it was decided he and his friends should get going and let them get back to work.
He was just about to leave so he asked the fishermen
"well I guess its back to f**cking the dog, eh guys"
In Canada f**cking the dog means "slacking off" and its a joke expression - {in uncouth labour type slang}.
Well it took alot of fast talking in hurried apologetic tones, to make it out of there with his bones intact.
   They took him quite literally.
I like the Aussie expression "a bee's dick" also which means a tiny amount, or a small increment.

Big fun, Evan! You must have some seriously good word-of-mouth goin' on! Too bad it isn't good form to strobe a camera flash in your customers' faces when they walk in the door. Maybe if you just casually set a camera on the counter and wait for them to ask about it...
