I need to find a glue locally (Ottawa) for CF to wood. I would prefer a single componet and not 2 part epoxy. I've heard some CAs work?

2 part epoxy is the thing to use. Why wouldn't that work for you?

What's being glued to what? We need to know the application before an answer makes sense.

And are you talking carbon fibre cloth or carbon fibre reinforced polymer?

the rod stew max sells to reinforce neck. If there is a on component glue I find it simpler than measuring epoxy. Looks like hot stuff and super T work

LMI used to sell some 2 part epoxy for carbon fiber years ago. I think it was dark green....

I asked the same question a few months ago, and perhaps the best answer was to contact the CF manufacturer. A name was given, but I do not recall at the moment.

I've heard non-foaming PU glue is good. I believe in the previous posts, one manufacturer recommended hide glue.

Jim Watts here on the OLF might have some information on that.

I use system 3 , 2 part epoxy.. I dont,know what else is available, but perhaps you can check with Lee valley in ottawa. they sell a wide range of glues???

I am 90% sure I remember Mario settling on PU glue in his CF/spruce laminated bracing tests. I bet the thread is in the MIMF library. The gorilla brand PU is super foamy and annoying to work with. Elmers brand still foams but seems like less so. If you are like me, PU will stain your skin brown; cleaning up with alcohol right away takes care of that.

I used to use PU for neck laminates but I stopped using it because I used it so infrequently that the bottle went bad before it got its second use.

Edit: I initially typed that CF stained my hands but I meant PU. Text above edited.

I talked to one of the manufacturers a few years ago when I was experimenting with CF. I don’t remember which one. His CF products could be glued with hide glue. The CF bar that I had, from some other manufacturer, would not stick to HHG. What glue works depends on who made your CF. I haven’t found a problem I couldn’t solve with wood alone, so I avoid the complications of CF.

Its the PU glue that stains mine, black and cannot get it off when its dry. I asked on a woodwork forum if anyone knew of a solvent to get cured PU off your hands. The only sensible answer I got was 12 inch disk sander and 60 grit! He wasn't wrong!

Sorry Bob, I typed CF when I meant PU. I'm going to go back and edit that post now. The PU glue stains my hands. I found that if you clean it off your hands with alcohol before it dries, it does not stain skin.

Have you tried fish glue (Norland/Lee Valley, etc) for that job? It'd be worth a try, I think.

Lol....sand the part dull with 220 and use Titebond. Not kidding.....MUCH testing bonding carbon parts to wood....much.

Epoxy adhesives are fine also unless you don't know what you have in your hands holding a can that says "epoxy adhesive". They run all over the place in terms of what they do. The best two part epoxy I use for "adhesive" wood/carbon is "West Systems G-Flex" which bonds the hell out of oily woods and carbon parts. Non-oily woods go for the ride. This is my go-to glue....but Titebond works FINE for what you are doing....unless the wood is oily.
