Will EIRW be banned soon (like coco)??

When was coco banned? As far as I know, it's still listed as an Appendix II species, which means it's restricted but not banned.

East Indian Rosewood is farmed. I though its only real issue was that it looks too much like BRW which is protected.

Getting to be not available isn't the same as banned.

You can look up the CITES status of species here: https://www.speciesplus.net/species#/taxon_concepts/68317/legal

Both cocobolo and Indian rosewood are still listed under Appendix II.

Indian rosewood has the following additional domestic regulation in India:
"[Stricter domestic measures] The Government of India has banned the export for commercial purposes of all wild-taken specimens of species included in Appendices I, II and III, except cultivated varieties of plant species included in Appendices I and II accompanied by a CITES Comparable Certificate issued by the competent authorities of India. Wood and wood products in the form of logs, timber, stumps, roots, bark, chips, powder, flakes, dust and charcoal produced from wild-sourced Dalbergia sissoo and Dalbergia latifolia are not exempt."

The CITES Standing Commitee met a couple weeks ago. I looked at the agenda for the meeting and there was no mention of an agenda item for further regulation of rosewood except specifically for rosewood from Madagascar.

The agenda mentioned above is in preparation for the next Conference of the Parties (which is held every three years) which will be next November. If any changes were to be made to rosewood regulation, it would happen there.

All of these are reliable. I like Exotic Wood Zone, because if I watch the photos carefully, I can get really nice sets of EIR (not flashy, but good quality) for less than $100 per set. Some sets are not so nice, but I have a lot of their stuff on my shelves that I really like at less than $100, shipping included.

Everything I've gotten from Exotic Wood Zone has been high quality.

There's the rub!
Stewmac and LMII won't sell to me (in France). Not sure about Allied but they probably won't either.
As for the ebay seller, free delivery in the US, $75 to me! Plus CITES fee!! Plus customs charges!!!
British suppliers are out now, since they left the EU.
Which leaves a couple of suppliers in Spain and Italy. Their prices seem attractive at first, but then you realise they don't include the 20% tax and the delivery charges aren't cheap.
Just to remind you guys in the US how lucky you are.

I checked Exotic Wood Zone, and noted that they were offering 'figured' EIR for more $$ than AAAA straight quartered sets. Turns out, the 'figure' is nothing more than cathedral from slab cutting.

Yep, I opt for the well quartered (and more boring looking) EIR when I order from Exotic Wood Zone. Better wood for less money.

Seems to me me this has been going on for a long time.

Yes, going on for a long time with other woods and other vendors. Wilder the grain the better seems to be the new mantra. That leaves more quartered for us, right?

Madinter’s prices are better than most US vendors for non-American woods. And free shipping within Europe from 300 euros. Not hard to spend that there, (un?)fortunately…
