My current build is a lovely walnut back and sides. I have an issue in that, somehow despite my efforts, ca has darkened a few places around the binding (not on the top thankfully)
So…. How would one darken the edges of the sides closest to the binding and fade that to natural wood toward the middle of the sides … I’d do the same around the edge of the back
Basically it’s like a sunburst without the sun…
Do I just use dyed shellac? And do more layers as it gets closer to the binding (which will be taped)
Hopefully this is something I can remedy

Do you use epoxy as a pore filler? If you do , I would wait to see if it darkens enough that the ca darkened spots don’t stand out as much.

The surest way to hide it is put a layer of CA over the whole side, then fish as usual.

Is it possible to scrape back below the CA stain? If I can, I prefer to remove my 'oops' moments in preference to adding to them. Experiment on scrap and see what happens. Don't have to learn on the guitar.

Some people use CA as a pore filler, so doing as Jim Watts suggested might kill two birds with one stone. CA is stinky stuff and the fumes can't be good for your lungs, so if you go that route do it outside with a fan blowing the fumes away from you.

Wet it with naphtha toy see if it will show up under finish. It might not.

Yeah, there’s a good chance you won’t see it unless it actually turned the wood a different color like it can on spruce.

I am betting it won't show once the finish is applied. I would clean it as much as possible with acetone.

As Walnut develops a patina it usually becomes lighter and "yellower". Depending on what the wood is sealed with the patina may develop differently, so what is initially inconspicuous may become more obvious with time. When finishing, I like to have the entire surface treated the same. YMMV
