I have posted this elsewhere, with no replies, but no harm in trying here. Bishop Cochran passed away last year and the production of his router bases seems to have stopped, even though the production was farmed out.Website is still up, but the machinist who answered the phone awhile back said there were no plans to make more units. I'm looking for one of his router bases to fit a Dremel. They were made them to fit several Dremel models and I don't care which one I can get because all the Dremel tool models are cheap on eBay. Can't imagine that anyone who has one would sell it, but chancing it. Thanks, Bob

Not to pile on the bad news, but when I contacted them to get a backup for my cherished Colt model, I received the contact info for the machinist who is supposed to be making them, who then simply ignored me.

You know, it would be great for everybody if Bishop’s heirs would license production and provide the production details to someone who will actually make the product, like maybe Elevate.

It looks like you could cobble a z axis on a Wells-Carol jig and Bob's your uncle!
Checking the website the only problem I saw with producing them was the price. As nicely made and finished as they are and the limited market, they might need to double the price.
Making them in Vietnam out of plastic might be the solution.

The first looks pretty well made and versatile the second video of one a bit easier to bodge together.

Agreed. Would be a shame to see such a nice piece of engineering go to waste.

The product is not rocket science to make. Any halfway competant machinist could probably make something similar, but different enough to avoid any legal conflict. The real issue is that they would be expensive and there is likely not enough market for them to warrant production. People who have used them understand the cost, and that a plastic one would not replace the machined aluminum model. I'm not a CNC guy, but it seems like CNC would be able to churn these out efficiently.They are however not perfect in design, which is why I want a second one so that I can make some modificaions without taking a chance of destroying the one I have.-Bob

I'm very happy with my Veritas Dremel Base

That may be a good reason to find something that - is - being manufactured that you can modify or add to, to give you the tool you want. Machining aluminium is not much more difficult than machining plastic.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
