Drool…

Did you put some kind of filter on the pic? It’s got that vintage vibe and with what I think are three sets of Brazilian just “hanging out”!

It's the good stuff for sure. I typically just use the recommended Google image processing suggestion and it actually makes it look closer to reality. With my phone the images typically need more light and more unsharp mask and I think that is basically what Google does.

Some fine work out there!

Here's a Lutz top I'm working on for a Torres-type classical. Thickness at 2.4mm tapering to 1.4mm. Not sure what the back and sides will be. Hard maple or BRW, perhaps. Rosette is maple burl with recon jade.

Found some time to get another muddy victim of the recent floods back in action today. So far, Asian-made cheapies seem to have the highest survival rate. This Chinese Takamine was completely submerged and full of dried mud by the time it landed on my bench. The preamp survived, although the under saddle transducer is toast.

Fretboard binding needed regluing, and some strange swelling needed to be levelled out. Glued up some cracks in the bridge.

Nut had floated away I guess, so I made a new one. Plays well.

Thank you. Bob's book was my guide, the body is 16 inch because I had a back plate but the top carving basically follows his contours.

I'm surprised and pleased with the voice, very different from all of my other guitars. I also want to give a big shout to Alain Lambert and his spectrum analyzing software - used it at several places during the carve to get a feeling for how the voice was changing.

Nice arch top, Freeman! I like that shape. Very cool. I tried to keep track of tap tones, and such when carving mine, I haven't been able to find them! I go a lot by feel on violins. I did a cello, and need to make a new top, and I was surprised at how high the tap tones were. If I did more, I might actually figure out what I'm doing!

jfmckenna; Beautiful archie. I got Benedetto's book last year but have yet to get the courage up

Well, If I had three of those backs sitting on my bench; I wouldn't get around to an arch top for a while either!
Really. Jump in.
The water is fine.

I'm thinking that my next arch top will be way out there. The bass side, a Stauffer profile. The treble side a Stauffer Terz, so a natural cutaway. A Spanish heel type neck, where the neck will be from the back to the fretboard; haven't drawn that up to see how it looks. A 13 stringer; like a 12 string in drop D with an extra high G treble. 590/600mm scale. All nylon strings, no wound strings. Aquila has loaded red strings that go to 2.2 equivalent. It's only about 110 or so pounds of string; so it can be made light. I thought my other is light, but it is fine with steel strings on it. So I'll thin it more! Maybe cut outs around the edge of the bass side, like a Parker, instead of f holes; that make the inside profile more like the Terz side? I haven't drawn that up either.

Yeah. I'm not normal/right. But I have a plan for a 13 string Vihuela da Mano from the 1500's that has a smaller body, so it should work. They probably didn't have the low D string. I don't know. I could make an original copy at the same time.

They must be - I think also key to their survival is the use of laminated back and sides. The black archtop I posted earlier was fully laminated and the body was essentially unaffected. Meanwhile, the solid rosewood fretboards on all of these cheapie flood victims seem to shed their binding as part of the swell-shrink cycle, and the necks distort.

Nice job!
I especially like the burst that you did and also the binding around the heel,As well as the heel shape itself.

Like all of my processes I have simplified it as much as I can and I’m getting really nice results.
After I bend the sides I simply mark the center lines off the mold and then bandsaw 16th of an inch away from the line.
Then on my 6 x 89 sander I sneak up to the line and adjust as necessary just takes a few minutes.

That's about what I do, just using a dozuki and sandpaper. But one more trick is to use a tape hinge to pull the seam together while gluing the tail block. Unfortunately I've never remembered to take a photo of it, but this pointy cutaway shows the idea.
