Anyone have any experience with it?
Any special tools I might need?
My sister wants a 4/4 violin and I thought this would be a great gift for her for xmas. The price is right fits my budget. I have 4 electrics from scratch builds under my belt. Plus many years of hobbiest woodworking experience and woodworking tool collecting.

Hello Frank,

I've put one together for a friend (gave it back to him in the white) and I'm working on a second one now....

They are great (beginner) kits and come with some pretty good lookin' wood.

It'll make a great gift....you'll have to buy a bow separately (not included in kit)

If you've already built instruments and have woodworking experience then you should have no problems!

You can go to Stew-Mac.com and download (PDF) the entire plans....in the plans it gives some recommended tools you may need.
The only special tool I got was one of the small ibex planes....anything else I had from years of tool collecting too!

I've built one. In fact, I built it twice.

After finishing it, I found I couldn't play it right-handed due to some wrist damage. So I took it apart, switched the soundpost and bass bar locations, and re-reamed the peg holes so as to switch them from one side to the other.

Then I went in search of a teacher who was willing to teach left-handed violin. That was a whole 'nother story. But when I found one, she said that the tone from the violin was right up there with the better-sounding student models (between $500 and $1000).
