Yeah it's a very cool story and I had some here for a while and then sold it. Never built with it was going to but never got there.

I bid on a set once.... Too rich for my blood.

Thankfully, there are many other gorgeous tonewoods to choose from.

Thanks for posting the article, that was interesting. I though about dumping the money into a set some years ago but decided it just wasn't worth it, to me anyway. It's beautiful wood but, it's just wood.

Beautiful wood and a great back story. I'm sure the wood has many good properties for building guitars, but I wonder if it may have gained a reputation because it was always somewhat expensive - i.e. the wood is expensive, so those buying it tend to be the guitar makers who can sell their work for higher prices, which tend to be those with reputations for building great guitars.
Brazilian rosewood shares a similar place in the guitar building world, a beautiful and scarce commodity with a reputation for building superior instruments, and in the hands of the right luthier it makes a fine guitar. But there are some "duds" out there too.
One thing about "Sour Grapes" - if treated properly they can make a fine Cognac. [:Y:] laughing6-hehe

Great article. I never really knew the whole story. Thanks.

Best quote - “Perception is multidimensional”.

So I never did figure out, is most of the tree wood used for instruments quartersawn? Didn’t really sound like it from the vibe of the article.
