I have a customer looking for a simple (cheap) external volume control for his acoustic guitar that has an active pickup system in it. The old fashioned belt clip kind. Have searched, but not finding anything. Any ideas? Thanks, Bob

Tim, Thanks for the info. It was too late to call them today, but I'll call on Monday. Just need to make sure this will work with an active signal.I used to keep up with all this stuff, but thankfully most of my work is purely acoustic these days. Electronics die out here in the jungle in short order, so I do my best to avoid having to mess with them. -Bob

Then Les Schatten is the man you want. They’re in Waterloo, Ontario, so Eastern time zone.

Tim,
Thanks for that lead. I did talk to Les today and he told me his external volume control will work with active pickups. I also asked him why they answer Schatten pickups and horseshoes. Les is into horseshoe throwing and I had just recently bought a set for my Grandson, so we instantly had something in common. He also said they used to be Schatten pickups and ammo. I've always told up and coming luthiers they should have a sideline that makes money!--Bob

Glad that worked out, Bob. I’m a dealer for Schatten, so I’ve had various conversations with Les regarding technical details. Very helpful guy. His pickups are not as well known as the US brands, but every bit as good and represent tremendous value. I use them in some of my own guitars. Les is probably best known among guitar geeks for his pickup winder — it’s very commonly used by pickup makers. It’s a small business with multiple family members involved.
