Sometimes the shop gremlins are not the result of our aging brains... I had a family of mice that kept stealing ebony w/abalone dot bridge pins. After two sets I finally learned to put them away and set some traps. I caught five but never found where they were stashing the pins.

Mice stealing bridge pins ... honestly, that is one of the funniest things I've heard in a long time.

There's a great children's book entitled Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. The rats are super intelligent, due to having escaped from the animal testing portion of an intelligence boosting experiment being conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health. Those @#$%& rats are definitely stealing my tuner screws. gaah

I was making a set of 4 violin pegs. I was at the point of chiseling out the flats on the tops, and the next time I went to work on them, one was gone. I found it in a covered plastic shoebox on the floor, under the bench with my waterstones in it; the next time I brought the waterstones out.

I still haven't found my small half round Iwasaki file. And it DOES have a red handle. I bought that and a flat one for way less than the half round is now! They DO have a curved one now too that would be handy. But I also see that they are all backordered.

Don. Rats stealing screws? Maybe. I tell my wife all the time that the drivers ahead of me just dropped down from the sky.

"Just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in."
