I have been working with HHG for 22 yrs I never used anything . I do heat thing up a bit with a hair dryer or heat lamp
you do want to practice your gluing technique a few time so you can cut down the process time.
still your experiment will be interesting to follow.

In the meantime I have tested the open time with several different hide glues and with different percentages of urea and 40% vinegar. With 30% urea I have an open time more than 10 minutes, with 20% vinegar I have an open time of nearly 7 minutes. The difference between them is the strength. With urea the strength may decrease, with vingar it may increase about 20%.
I searched for more information and found a coursework from the Technical University of Munich from 2002 with a lot of recipes to make hide glue fluid at room temperature.
Now I will try to get a dissertation about testing some of these recipes from the University of Aachen out of 1991. I hope to be successful and will post the results.
