Is he dry sanding or wet sanding?

I get the idea he dry sanded first, and then wet sanded as he went to finer grits. I've not seen the smaller foam buffing pads, but I'll be looking for them next time. They would be far more appropriate for buffing maple necks and such.

I’ve been enjoying the Luthier Tips du Jour videos, very informative. These days I’ve been watching just about every luthierie video I come across. Lots of great information.

Like much of the internet, a lot of "how to do luthiery" videos are crap. Stick to the fellows you see here on the OLF, and you'll be fine, Colleen. Go with the masters, not the wanna-be's.

Just to add on to the advice Chris has given here. There are many, many videos and websites showing how to do just about everything in instrument building. You will see many different approaches shown. That in and of itself isn't a problem since there are lots of good ways to do all of the different tasks. The problems comes because there are also lots of "not so good" ways to do them. On the internet, it can be hard to know what is what and who actually knows from real experience. Many presenters and commenters blindly repeat what they have seen or heard without much practical experience or a full understanding of what they are saying. What's worse is, if you don't know, you can't tell who is spouting off from shaky ground.

That is why community forums like this one are so valuable (and under utilized). What is presented here is discussed and challenged by some pretty experienced folks. Those discussions help less experienced people like me learn. Think of youtube and facebook groups like the classic "they say that. . ." stuff that you always hear but never know where it came from (if you shave it will grow back thicker, you only use 10% or your brain, you can't dream of a face that you have never actually seen before. . .) you know the stuff that is mostly just BS but everyone kind of believes because it gets repeated.

Think of communities like this as taking classes on a subject from educators and people working in industry who sit around and talk nuts and bolts and compare test results and real world experiences.

True, Bryan. As a general rule you can trust most of the StewMac videos, anything from Frank Ford, Rob's vids from LMI, anything from Ken Parker, TJ Thompson, and a few others. I am talking people with sterling reputations for repairs and building, who've written books or columns in notable magazines.
