I got this set of Imbuia from (who else) Bob C. It has been around the shop looking good for over a year, with no takers (because it is not a traditional tonewood) until a visiting client saw it and wanted to use it to make a slope jumbo with florintine cutaway. I thought the back resembled the shroud of Tourin or mabe an Italian leather seatcover taken from an Alpha Romero that spent too much time in the sun with the top down. The binding is Koa and that is a maple line.

That Koa is a perfect match for the Imbuya...the Imbuia...the Bamuia...er, Rimbua, oh whatever it is.

Very cool John, what did you use for a top. Any pics.

I'm about to start an OM Imbuia/Cedar with a venitian, will use flamed maple for the bindings.

A twin, just not identical. I hope mine turns out half as nice as that.

True Rod, that finish is just a quick coat of shellac to bring out color and help me spot sanding mistakes. The box is now in the hands of Addam Stark getting shot with lacquer.

hmmmmmm that gives me some ideas,

can you see the big board at the back of this photo, thats a plank of imbuia that i have had for 3-4 years, and i was never sure what to do with her, but know i know!!
