I use a CMT bit with a bottom bearing for use in my built in router table. The bit with the top bearing would be for use with a hand held router. It takes no more than an hour to make a router table and like Bruce I can't overstate how handy it is.

This one is 1 1/4" x 5/8"

Colin

Todd, thanks for the pics of the molds. They look great! Your method sounds like the best for doing this. I think it's the way I'll be doing mine. Thanks for the link to the bit. It looks like a good one.

Bruce, Tiplersville is a city in north Mississippi about the size of a pinhead. It's out in the middle of nowhere. I live on a dead end dirt road.

I built my first guitar when I was 16 years old before we even had the internet. So my first ones are really rough. I didn't really start understanding things til about guitar#4. I've never used a radius sanding board but Im going to get one for my next guitar. I also did all my bending on a hot pipe. Anyway, some of my guitars went really good using the Cumpiano methods and some have not. Thats why I am now investing in molds forms and dishes. I've sold four of my guitars so far. Two of them were sold to individuals at cost, and two were sold to the Gibson showcase music store in Nashville, TN. I barely got my money out of those too, but thats okay because I wasn't completely satisfied with them. I may post some pics of my progress on #12 soon. I have some pics of some of my other guitars posted here Luthier Photo Gallery

Serge, do you realize you're 2 posts away from 2000?
Larry, I think that would be 102 away. Still, Serge has to be the fastest in the history of the OLF to reach 2000 posts. And that includes around 40000 smiley's. Go Serge!
Arrrggghh! Right you are Dave! Remedial math time for me!    Good point about the 40000 smileys tho!

I don't know Bruce, I consider my drum sander a very handy tool and use for shaping all manner of curved parts from bridges, headstocks, braces both cross section and profile. I use it for clearing up mold shapes as well.

Beardonia looks like a very happy place, judging by its flag.
