Steve, two words--"shop poncho!" [/QUOTE]

Carlton, point taken.
But I think too highly of my "shop poncho" to work padauk while wearing it.

My favorite is calico padauk. Same African species, but low pigmented in some areas producing stripes, swirls and webbing.

John,
Those sets sold. But I'll be cutting more up soon. No sapwood though.

Larry,

First I heard the term "calico padauk." A couple years ago, I found some of that stuff at a local hardwoods dealer and bought enough for three or four guitars -- almost. I need some more for a couple of side sets. Know where I can get some?

Here are a couple photos of a guitar I built out of the striped stuff:

Best,

Michael

Well, yes I do Michael I'll check the stock and see if I have more side stock than back stock. That looks great. It doesn't seem to be as receptive to photodegradation as the standard red/orange type. Any noticeable tone difference you can discern as coming from the calico padauk?

You mean as opposed to regular red padauk? Hard to say. That guitar was an experiment that was way out there as far as all the stuff I did with it, some of which I'm sure had a bearing on sound. Tap-tone wise, it has that same bright metallic sound that the regular stuff has.

If you have some stripey padauk similar to the above guitar's, let me know. I'll have to check my stash again, but I probably need a couple of side sets.

Best,

Michael
