This marks a minor milestone for me of 300 real life case studies of modal tuning as applied to the traditional x-brace platform.

I try to keep these guitars as simple as possible in order to spend more time on the voicing process and less time on anything else. These are about the least amount of work I’m willing to put into a guitar with the exception of bindings/purflings (guitars look cheap to me without them even if they’re not), finger board binding (guitars look cheap to me without them even if they’re not), and stepped tuner holes which is not necessary on satin guitars, but only takes an extra few seconds.

This has some figured wood, which is no extra work, and a more modern rosette as per request of the client. I’m looking forward to putting that data towards more advanced designs such as falcate bracing and general carbon fibre shenanigans.

I shipped this out a week or so ago…

And yes, that is TUSQ for nut, saddle, and pins, and yes, I do like it better than bone…;)

That’s amazing, Ed.

I remember listening to Jason Verlinde interview you and being inspired by your approach of putting tone and playability above all else all while keeping them affordable and accessible to real musicians.

Kudos.

Document your process and thinking on X brace tuning. A short book, a video series, or something, while it's fresh in your mind before moving on to other bracing styles. That's priceless information.

Thanks Brad!

That interview was actually pretty important. Our IG/FB page went from just over 100 likes to over 1000 in just a few days (where, interestingly enough, it has hovered evermore). This coincided with an enthusiastic owner going off on the AGF, and suddenly we had 30 orders in 21 days. Immediately afterwards Jean closed the Canadian shop and off we went from there…

I'd say that is quite a milestone Ed, congrats. I love the look of the guitar too, there's nothing wrong with simple elegance.

Congratulations on the milestone! I dig the aesthetic completely and, as far as my personal tastes are concerned, you’ve hit the sweet spot - any additional ornamentation past this point starts to detract from the instrument’s appearance rather than add to it.
