Just wanted to share this here. Robbie has a course now on CNC usage in luthiery. This course is exactly what I’ve been preaching to anyone who would listen…. There is a TON you can do with the CNC that will augment your building before you have to get anywhere near complex software, 3D modeling, etc… The course uses the same software I started with, Vectric Vcarve, which is a very simple all in one package for CAD/CAM.

There are so many uses… accurate molds, bending / vacuum forms and acrylic templates that actually match one another and with accurate offsets for bending forms being the least of it! :)

You can scroll my Instagram if you want to see how I use CNC.

Here is the class - https://lutherieacademy.com/courses/cnc

Ed, just coincidentally I watched an interview on YouTube of you at maybe Emerald City Guitars, I’m not sure. You mentioned CNC was on your radar. Jump in!! I’ll help however I can. :)

That would have been The Guitar Store Seattle. James really helped me out in the beginning, it’s a shame the store didn't survive Covid. I miss that place. I also miss RJ, lol, I hate sanding…:)

I’d love to have a small CNC rig for repair-related jig making. If you watch what some of the higher-tech violin repair guys are doing there’s some pretty amazing use of a 3d scanner + small cnc to produce perfect drop-in patches and plugs. It’s an interesting field for sure.

But I’m totally out of space in the shop so I’d have to ditch an existing machine to have room…
