Happy Holiday folks!

We have a Stewmac tool giveaway just in time for Christmas!

All you need to do to be in the drawing for this tool is post a comment in this thread.
I will have my wife Theresa pick the winner on Christmas Day.

Stewmac has offered us a Nut and Saddle Vise
You can see it here
https://www.stewmac.com/luthier-tools-and-supplies/types-of-tools/vises/nut-and-saddle-vise/

Good luck!

Thanks Stewmac!

I bet that could be used as a nut cracker also! Let's just avoid the type of nut cracking tried in Violent Night (actually a rather hilarious take on Santa Claus)

That would be useful.

Merry Christmas!

That does look useful. Nice size for that task.

That reminds me, sort of, like the precision vises we had in the shop. Far more practical looking than the metal vise I have.

That vice is great for the task it's designed for. Highly recommended.

Looks like a handy tool for working on small fiddly parts.

This is one of the top five tools Stewmac has ever offered for sale. I have one permanently mounted at my nut/saddle making station.

But I would love another one for my mobile tech kit :D

Count me i!

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
