All the best for 2024.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

In the New Year, may your chisels be stupid sharp, your router rout true, your bindings and purflings be gapless, your saddle compensation be spot on, your finishes not sand through, your neck sets be on target, your miter joints be clean, and your instruments sound glorious!

Thanks Jay. That’s a pipe dream for me. I’ll be happy with 1 or 2 coming true for me. :D
