Precisebits is a great company. I bought their highest precision collets for CNC. I haven’t (knock wood) snapped a bit since (~3 yrs), even 1/8” compression bits running full depth through 3/4” plywood. Their fret slotting and shell cutting bits are fantastic and last a long time.

If you ever call and get Ron on the phone make sure you grab a notebook because you’re about to get an education.

My jigs for rosettes and saddles have been modified to use the DeWalt 611 with the Precise Bits collets. It’s a good and accurate combination for my work.

As Karl demonstrated, you can clean up the Bosch Colt for better performance. And for lots of operations (not CNC type operations, obviously), the runout is not as big a problem. I have a number of really nice second-hand tools that are fitted for the Colt, so I keep on using Colts in those tools. They work fine. If there are same-size replacements for Colts with better runout numbers, I welcome the recommendations, and over time perhaps I’ll switch out, but I find the runout on my Colts to be manageable. Again, I’m not trying to make them operate like a high quality CNC spindle. YMMV.

Using two separate stacked plywood plates without gluing them together was not the best idea (note to self, again) but it worked out in the end.
I’ll be cutting slots today.
