By popular demand, I'm offering a generic neck with custom laminations. All the details are at http://www.watkinsguitars.com/cnc_necks2.htm and there is a shopping cart there to sign up.

All the necks will ship in about 60 days.

Thanks,

John

Don't listen to the masses. Sunbursts can be cool.... I like 'em.

For me it's actually more of a genre's aesthetic than anything else. This
might sound a little foofy, but when I see a certain type of burst, I think of
gospel, soul, blues, and jazz. Music with a little grit (not necessarily
darkness). That said, I like a pure looking traugott quite a bit too, but I
don't connect with that as much.

I like shading more than bursts, like the walker Don posted.

John thanks,
Order to come very soon. You mention domestic. Does Koa count?

John I think you will find this will be a good selling product. While I like to carve necks it is one of the more time consuming tasks for me. Being a after hours builder you have just fill a niche I have desired for a long time

Thank you sir MichaelP38823.1342824074

Chris, check out the galleries section of my web site. There are lots of pics of neck batches and other parts that I've done for others as well as some closeup machining shots. I've got more if needed.

Michael, no sir, thank you!!!
Thanks Brock for your support. One of the things that I am noticing is that former or current electric guitar fans don't hate sunbursts, i.e. you Brock and Lance and even Tony although he is a drummer. Do you think that this holds true generally speaking?
Maybe. Certainly electric players are more accustomed to seeing color on guitars. I think the burst is highly underrated. While I love the clean -- crystal clear -- look on some guitars I think they can end up a little sterile. Subtle shading bursts and bursts of unusual color can be very classy and work WITH the color and figure of the wood... not obscure it.

Al, I just checked it out and it does appear that something's wrong with the code for the menu. I can't fix it right now because I'm not at home, but if you go to the audio sample page, for some reason the menu works on that page. Go figure. I'll fix it later today.

Thanks,

John

Hey Michael,

I am not sure that John really answered your question re-koa. I think he was just thanking you for supportining his business.

That's the way I read it anyways.

I assumed the question was a humorous rhetorical one. Yes?

Just to be clear, Koa is certainly an option, but a pricey one.

The menu at www.watkinsguitars.com is working again. Sorry about the inconvenience.

I remember buying a curly koa board 10' long x 2 1/2" thick x 13" wide at a lumber yard in Oakland Ca. for $125.00 Would have made a lot of necks, backs and sides. Problem is that it was 1974 when I bought it.

Gary, how about 4" x 8"? That ought to accommodate everyone, I think. Let me know if not. They'll have ears of course.

Sounds like an Easter Bunny reference if I ever heard one!

John I saw the pictures of your shop at your website. A clean shop is a sign of a warped mind .
Actually I'm envious.

A very tempting prospect John as I hate carving necks but I do my necks in a real "Martin" type heel which is very different than yours. It would still leave me a lot of carving to do. Are you thinking of offering different heel shapes in this generic neck Offering, I know it kind of makes it no longer generic so wouldn't really expect it but Hey, worht asking. Besides, I probably have 6 months worth of neck blanks on had but when those are used up...

Thanks for asking, Richard, but they'll all have to have the same heel shape. Don't forget that I've got an existing customer base of guys who've already paid the setup fee. Offering too many custom features on these 'spec' necks would be unfair to them.

John
