Anyone know how to make an elliptical rosette like you might see on a
Gibson A2 mandolin?

I do mine with a template collar set on a plunge router. One pattern cuts
both the recess and the inlay. I happen to have my rosettes go all the way to
the edge of the soundhole, but it's not necessary.
