Do you guys have an alternative plastic caul for round foot of sound hole clamps? I can’t justify $6 each…

Why wouldn’t you just use a scrap of wood? You could even glue some cork or felt to it iif you wanted.

Hey Jim!
Cork doesn't stay put when I glue it onto the metal cup. Might hold better if it wasn't void of material in the center. Guess I could cut some HW circles with a hole saw and inlet them on one side to fit over the foot of the clamp- thanks, that's a great idea!

Hey Karl! I must be missing something, does it really need to be attached to the clamp? Can't it just sit between the top and the clamp to protect the top?

Show a pic of your clamps Karl.

I've used plastic furniture "feet" that slide over chair legs.

Or cane tips, there's all kinds of plastic rod tips. Sometimes you have to cut them down a bit.

I've glued leather to c-clamps with contact cement and it's stayed there for decades.

These are StewMac soundhole clamps. The foot of the clamp has a hole in the center for the attaching screw. Cork works for one or two times. Pic with three clamps, shows the remains of cork down in the heads of the screw. Now looking at it, the screw head likely helps tear up the cork. Leather would be much better than cork. These feet are small (1/2" dia) and don’t have much area to spread a clamping load, and the center is not supported either.

SM sells a snap on (that really be included) that increases the area and covers the center.

Jim, I’m referencing the foot on the bottom side, which would be the inside of the guitar, it’s easy to add a caul on the top.

If I’m not vacuum clamping a bridge on I tape a shaped caul underneath the sound board and clamp against that. Just remember to remove it when you’re done!
