Anyone build with this wood? I've built three with it and it's great to work with. On top of that my personal guitar (#1, and bottom pic) is built with it and the more I look at it the more I like it. I may build another one just for fun.

Anyway, I never have seen anyone else use it and none of the OLF vendors have it, so was just curious.

LMI is the only place I've seen it for sale. That's where I got both of these sets.

I've used it. I don't like it too much if your really going for a "rosewood"
tone. It tends to have a more woodier tone. That is a good thing, just
not the "normal" rosewood thing. It is a pretty wood and affordable too.

I've built 2 slope dreds of paloescrito, and found the wood to be both beautiful and east to bend. I ordered 2 sets at the same time, one was their first quality, and the other was their second. The second had some really nice grain patterns while the first was straight grained. I've got some pics somewhere if I can find them I will post.

I've built an L-00 with it, I liked that one just fine. I have two more sets that I am waiting to use, and I feel good about them.

Everything I seen or heard says that the tone is much more mahogany than rosewood. I've built two dreads with it and I would agree they both, to me, have that mahogany sound to them.

The three sets I ordered from LMI (at different times) all look quite different. Kind of like a suprise grab bag when you order sight unseen.

I bought 2 set from LMI about 1.5 yrs ago. They're sister sets, here's a shot. FWIW, It seems to bother my lungs when I've handled it.

I have used some amazing palo escrito with lots of sapwood that was a drea to work with! Sounds great too!

I've built three or four with Palo and Love it also. It is supposedly a favored wood among the Luthiers in Paracho, Mexico( the great town of luthiers). All that I have built have all had different colors, etc. as others have said, nothing is the same except the tone. It has a nice Mahoganyish tone. If anyone can find a piece thick enough to make a bridge, please let me know. I can't seem to find and even Chris at LMI came up empty.

So what, actually, is this wood? Most wood references that I check do not mention it. Is it really a rosewood (Dalbergia, sp) or one of those many woods that just get the "rosewood" name applied to it for hype? Having a "mahogany tone" makes me suspicious.

Grant, according to LMI's website it is a true rosewood. They don't list the botanical name though.

Dave it is a true rosewood. Guess what it's botanical name is, Dalbergia paloescrito!

Often, high-zoot wood plus colorful decoration just turns into an over-the-top mess, but that one just makes me smile! Sure do hope you've got some photos of the finished instrument.
