Just a few pics of my #5 built from a Martin macassar ebony kit (laminate). While it was my 5th acoustic guitar, it was my only build from a kit. Martin's price was just too good to pass up.

Sounds quite good. Actually better than I expected. Most guitarists have no idea that it has laminate back and sides.

How does the sound compare to the 4 you have previously built? What about compared to a fair production model. I myself was thinking about a similar kit to build. I guess I would like to know your feelings on it or if you would build another one?

I built thus guitar pure stock, no deviation from the kit. Finish is epoxy under Stewmac waterborne lacquer. I built it in approx 30 days start to finish.
It sounds different than my other 4. 1,2,&3 were Gibson J45 copies and #4 was the only Martin style dred. up to the kit.
I did get to A/B it with a 76 HD-28, and it compared favorably but the martin was definatly the better sounding guitar.
My feelings, think dressed up D-16 in exotic wood that you get to build. I'll probably build more, but I still prefer to scratch build.

Yup. I've been back and forth from here to the shop, fighting with the @#$%&** lacewood guitar that I'm building. Seems like nothing wants to work. Mabe it's my attitude. When I'm not working, I sometimes get a little crazy. I'm going to go play music for a few hours, mabe that will improve my attitude.

It looks like mahogany core with macassar on both sides. BTW the top is solid spruce. Rosette was preinlayed, sides bent, and neck precarved for $250.00.
