A customer of mine has asked about a Pick up for his clasical. He used to use a Sound hole pickup (a Barkes Barry or something like that) and is wanting to replace it, something good but to too costly, ie, around $100. Any sugestions and sources?arvey38824.4018171296

B Band A1 preamp with either UST or AST works well. Typical cost around
$120... For a classical, the AST may work better

How would the AST be without pre amp? This guy is thinking Passive. I have been thinking of trying out the B-Band Pickups for my SS as well as One of my suppliers carries them and they are quite cheap (compared to LR Baggs and Fishman)

Hey Richard,

You could try this K and K Sound Pickup. I can get them for you. It would be about $110 USD. I, and a few others on this forum, distribute for them. I ahve only installed one so far but the guy loves it. I have another in the shop for my current build. Those are steel string units mind you but K and K makes some great quality pickups at a very fair price.

Just another option!

Thanks

Shane

I second the K&K endorsement, I am both a dealer for K&K and Fishman ( I do not sell seperately without the install)and I like them each for different things, but K&K on the classical is a good thing.

I've installed a K&K on a classical I'm almost finished with, at the customer's request.

I've also installed the Schatten Design passive pickup on a couple other classicals, and I like its sound a lot. I have no personal experience yet with the K&K passive setup, but I've no reason to doubt that they will not work well also.

Best,

Michael

The Canadian Supplier for LR Baggs is also the distributor for B-Band and I deal with them so I'll probably recomend one of them to this guy. If he orders one I need to make my mony on it so I'll need to be able to pick it up wholesale. Has anyone used an AST or UST without the pre Amp. As I said this guy likes passive and if he needs a preamp uses an external.

I am not sure if the AST or UST cannot be used with a passive pickup. I have used LR Baggs I beams passively and the are very nice. All you need is a 0.5inch endhole

P.S. Do you know what your customer will need after you install that great sounding pickup in his guitar? that's right...a good cable...a Klotz cable...why ruin the sound with anything less?
