I’m just back from Summer Acoustic Music in the Pines - I think I counted 15 Michael Colbert Guitars and at least 12 owners on the property. Somebody had the idea of doing a group shot - I’m the dork laying in the dirt…kinda makes a guy choke up a little when he sees how many lives he has impacted with this pursuit…

I wonder where the other 50 guitars are?

Best, Michael

You've made some real big ripples in the water, Michael! An inspiration to me, for sure. How do the guitars sound, and how have they held up, after some time out in the field?

Structurally they are perfect - my oldest post Somogyi guitar is about 13 years old. I actually looked it over this weekend, and the action was 5/64ths and 3/64ths and hasn’t budged. The finish on the other hand, not so good. I started out with zpoxy under EM6K. Every one of them had failed. Thankfully the guitars still sound great! The folks that own them are all finger style players looking for lots of sustain, overtones, shimmer, and responsiveness.

Anyway…

PS I sold two more at camp..

Im not happy with your em600 results. It's what i used my recently completed guitar. I guess I'll find something else that's nontoxic.

What were the issues?

It’s not the EM6K, it’s the zpoxy. I switched to Silvertip epoxy and no longer have a problem.

I used Z-poxy as a sealer on my archtop; in the winter when it wasn't warm! My homemade varnish has stuck on it; but I just had the Z-poxy as a sealer on the back of the neck. I scraped it all off the neck, because it was getting soft, and gummy from the oils? in my hands. The headstock and body are fine.

I guess that's why you should do tests. But who thinks about varnish not sticking. You have seen cars with peeled paint. I'm sure they didn't expect that.

I used it as a fill on my edgework; like the live edge tables that are out there.
