Fit a neck reset on a 1950 00-18, patched missing spruce and started a
new fretboard on a '62 D-28, installed an iBeam in a cheap classical,
partial refret, missing binding and jack replacement on a Washburn
acoustic, took in a 1940 0-17 for neck reset, refret, new bridge and
bridge plate and top cracks, turned away a PRS for minor touchup, glued
up loose side/back joint on a Seagull, thicknessed koa sides for a tenor
ukulele, fret dress on a '56 ES-125, and left my shop an absolute mess. It
was nice to have a day in which I actually felt productive though.

Made some jigs to use up some of that box of toggle clamps I scored the other day.

Made a new nut & saddle for a simon & Patrick, then gave it a set up.
Cut a half dozen scorpion inlays, and a partial vine inlay.
Stared out the window at what appeared to be sunshine and no snow!

Started trying to add a patch to the inside of an archtop that I carved too thin right at the waist. Very tough to do. Decided my time was better spent continueing on with carving its replacement, which is almost done. The first one is starting more and more to look like a clock . When my son came home I helped him with his car. Then back to the shop to adjust a spoon bottom plane sole which is not curved enough to get into the archtop.
Now I'm at work, working really hard

I did my first abalone rosette on a great Carpathian top I got from BobC, and radiused and put in the dots on a nice Bois De Rose fingerboard. Now I'm off to clean the shop - something I have been avoiding for two weeks!

Cleaned up tons of wood dust and rubbish, moved wood up and down trying to make room, looked around for tools I cannot find, tried to imagine a shop in order and my last guitar finished, wondered whether I will survive this confusion or not. Not a great day indeed.

Well, I put the nice stack of cedar I got from Jason in there yesterday.

I stared out the window at it this evening.

Looked at my 000 on the bench with the back finally on-top to come. Then flattened and honed 10 chisels by hand. I'm very mad at my Tormek right now.Did nine of them with Norton "multi"-diamond to lilywhite to black hard Arkansas and one on waterstones-1000 to 4000 to 8000.Wrists are tired-chisels are razor sharp and ready to go.Good therapy though- all freehand-at least I can do that well and with confidence.

Dave, I did my wife's Buick tranny a while back and it actually brought it back from the dead. It was acting quirky. New tranmission filter, clean out the gunk, slap on a new gasket and fill it with fresh life-giving red as red can be oil.

Took it a few days to straighten out, but hasn't missed a beat since, whew. And you are right, it's a PITA job.

Started a fire in my 1" Delta Belt sander sharpening a lawn mower blade, then wondered who was burning incense in the garage!

Got the sander from my Dad when he passed away, never checked if it was cleaned! I always used the 3"! Now I'm proud of myself for not burning down the garage!

Stickered some new wood (koa) that I received last week from the Big Island....
Setup the binding rig w/ the tolerances needed to rout the channels for the top, then did a bunch of test cuts...
Rejuvinated a clock whose mechinism went south that I gave my parents back in the 70's, which will now be the timekeeper the shop...

In the process of binding up two bodies and glue up on another box, hopefully before sun rise. If not, that`s ok too. Got called in to work on my day off and now I`ve got three days to myself, Good Lord willing and the creek don`t rise!

Well, seeing as my wheelchairs front caster snapped off! And Im fairly immobile >I had to do some pretty stationary work,
I finished handle-ing all my rasps and files.
Im restoring this plane I have so I stripped all the crappy red paint off of my Stanley No5 wooden handles, sanded it nice and fine, gave the wood a nice light fruitwood stain, and set it aside.
need to get a can of spray lacquer to finish it up.
I then immersed the rusted plane metal in a plastic tub solution of water+washing soda and electrocuted it with a battery charger for a couple hours to get the rust off via electrolysis! It cleaned up real nice. I wont be able to sharpen it until I get some sharpening equipment though .
I saw a couple sharpening jigs and station plans in my ShopNotes magazines so I will have to investigate thos ish's and see whether that would be suitable for my sharpening needs or not.
Oh Serge your gonna love these!
Next it was marking out the area on the workbench which will be a dedicated gobar deck, Im framing in an area below it so that the deck is removeable and there will a pipeclamp clamping/glueing station beneath in order to save space.
Thats as far as I got - & More of the same coming up.
Cant wait to start building.
Cheers

Wow, Andy, that's gotta be the world's most important job (life-saving); followed, of course, by #2--lutherie!

Here, it's a sharpening frenzy--yesterday and today and tomorrow and..., well, lots of blades to do. I've gotten my sharpening skills to where it's almost fun, until I factor in the three new blades I'm working on--lapping the backs...aaaargh! Almost done with that part, though.

Well I got home this morning from work... I sharpened my trusty 1/2 inch chisel in anticipation of doing some brace shaping. I then started heating up my hot pot for some hide glue when I realized that this was one of the most beautiful mornings I had seen in a really long time, so, I picked up my guitar (my first) and I went to sit with my feet hanging over the deck of my empty pool and I must of played guitar for close to an hour with the hot sun beating down upon my face. Glorious!... Then I went to bed.
