I just slotted a bridge with a quick and dirty jig I came up with. It's not something I want to keep using though as the set up time for each use it too much. Does anyone have a recommendation on one I can either build or buy?

I just ordered one from Stew-Mac.... hope it gets a good review here...

If you look in the Jigs Section, at John Hows Bridge Shapping jig, he shows his slotting jig too, I like this one as there is no scope for the trimmer to move.

Russell, Thanks. I looked there awhile back and didn't notice the slotting jig but I'll look again.

Hesh, Thanks for the review. I was hoping to get something that I could use my trim router with but will keep the Stew-Mac option open.

Do you have a drill press? If so, the John Mayes video shows him slotting using a moveable drill press vise, with an end mill bit, and a simple jig to position.

I built John How's and love it. I did ten bridges last week. It slots and drills the bridge pin holes.

John made me on of his jigs a coupla of years ago, I have used it for every guitar since, its dummy proof, perfect for me

The Robosander folks have added an optional attachment to their Luthier's Friend jig that allows bridge slotting on the drill press.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the advice. With all these positive reviews, I'm going to build one like John How's setup with a cool profiling jig like what Terry came up with.

Roy, Sorry it's taken me so long to jump on this thread. You probably have your jig built already. But here is the way I do it. This particular jig is for my old style of bridge but I use the same thing for my new ones.



I hold the bridge in with vacuum. But you could use two of your pin holes and be just as effective. The bridge sits at two angles, one for compensation and the other to lay the saddle back 8•. The small shelf-like slats are stops for the router. It took me awhile to get it set up just right but now slotting a jig is a 20 second job, literally. Hope this helps. Paul
