Arnt the thought had crossed my mind, but I haven't been able to come up with a plausable explaination that I can tell the lovely wife that will explain the trailer before we leave on the ferry. I don't want to give the game away before we get there or I'll have to listen to nagging all the way to Tassy. I've been thinking pretty hard about it too.
Paul,

Leave your wife behind and youll have more room in the car for wood!

Cheers Martin

I'll wait to see how things play out with Shane bringing this wood over. I'd be a likely customer for some. Photo #2 of the straight-grained stuff looks mighty fine to me.

Just an update.

All the wood has been quantified totalling about 200 bft. I will be sending Shane a detailed list. He is anticipating starting a new thread for orders.

In summary there is about
80 bft of birdseye/fiddleback
90 bft of traditional fiddleback
30-34 bft of buttress figure.

There appears to be an even split of side and back dimensioned boards

regards

Tim

This is typical of the birdseye fiddleback boards.

The image below is representative of the more traditional fiddleback

Colour will change with seasoning in both figure types

So the "buttress" boards are down near the stump, with some flame? I love the color of that stuff. I'd be interested in some of that...

Did you find any wood that can be cut and flipped for neck blanks like we discussed?

LOVE those tiger myrtle pics......

Black Swan

A couple of questions

1. The will be in B&S sets at 3/16 +/-?

2. Unseasoned, I have only purchased B&S from OLF
sponsors, ready to go, how long, what is the process
   and time in curing?

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

The offering of the unseasoned blackwood is clearly aimed that those members that can get someone to resaw the material in the US or Canada. Unseasoned sets sent via shipping is too risky as percentage will inevitably be discarded due warpage and cracking. In large boards/billets these issues are avoided. If and when the boards are resawn into 3/16 +/- and racked out for air drying it would take a 4 - 6 months to be safe. With some form of fan arrangement it would be quicker. It is a requirement that birdseye fiddleback must be air dried only to avoid any adverse shrinkage near the birdseye features. Should a buyer choose to ignore this advice then that will compromise any redress regarding reimbursement.

Aside from this the unseasoned material has been priced accordingly with the assunption that
1.
Buyers will store the material a period of time to allow the material to naturally season.

2. Whilst the grading and selection of material has been done in good faith and with expertise there is always a chnace that a piece may have an unobservable flaw.

Pricing changes

About a third of the birdeye/fiddelback where there is a high frequency of birdeye occuring has been reduced
to $35 USD BFT with the rest set at $40 USD BFT. The other material is set at $50 USD bft.

regards

Tim
