Luthiers Bios Page Two, looking like a checkerboard....

Kind of a sad realization this morning. I was looking for a particular luthiers bio. Turns out, he's gone.

This happened a while back too, on page one. I never did figure out who it was that had himself removed. I have all the names from the early days. Something or someone must have gotten to him? Sad.

Then on page two, there are a couple of blank spaces where luthier's bios used to be. I know who one of them is, but not the other.

I just want to say one thing. We need to carefully consider posting on the OLF. Type your responses to a thread, then re-read it before hitting the post message button. Lately, I find myself typing messages, re-reading it, and deciding that it would add absolutely nothing to the thread if I posted it, so I don't.

In an open society, where different viewpoints abound, we still should have the decency to be considerate of others. I've been involved in heated debates before here on the OLF and may have ruffled a few feathers in an unkind way. I know that's true. I promise to do better and consider carefully what gets the "post message" button punched by my name.

Bruce, it looks to me like they have done some house cleaning. Originally there were a couple of duplicates on the second page and they appear to be gone now.

I can't imagine you would ever offend anyone on the forum, your must rate as one of the most polite and curtious members here.

Me on the other hand, I may have upset the dreadnought fans, banjo fans, and anyone who likes a nice burst.

Yeah Russell, in fact both you and Colin have offended me many times on that subject and no later than today BTW! Now i'll be shy to show my dreadnaught when it's done in 2007! Was thinking of a sunburst but reconsidered, wouldn't want Colin to throw me one of his beautiful planes by the furry head of mine!

All kidding aside Russ, i know that even though you guys criticize dreads and burts, you sure appreciate all the talent that is shown before your eyes, being a north american boy, i lack knowledge of classical music and even if i prefer Country music, i'll listen to everything that's out there and appreciate the level of diificulty of each piece that i hear.

Now, i gotta go and buy me some BBQ sauce for my steaks if ya don't mind, the corner store here is out of ketchup! Dang!

I am sur your Dread is going to be a great one, and we are only teasing at the end of the day, people like different things, I'll listen to any sort of Music and appreciate it, I was watching a program on Lowden Wainwright III the other day and he was playing acousticaly on a Martin Dread and a little Uke, Man did that Bass sound good on the dread.

Serge it is not me playing, most of the guitars I make I only get to play upside down, as I play left handed, unlike Colin and Dave I'm not a great player those two are both really good, so I tend to let other better artists play when recording.

The Clips are played by David Kilpatrick and Steve Elliot who are both very fine artists.

Bruce I've done the same thing. Spend ten minutes writing a post only to delete it after re-reading it, I would be surprised if we were the only ones.

Another good personal rule is to not post if you're in a bad mood / dog tired / had a few drinks / abused naughty substances. There was a guy on another unrelated forum years ago, let's call him George, who used to post messages all the time that started arguments, I suspect that George was having a few drinks before getting online, he probably wasn't a bad bloke, just got himself an opinion after a few beers. He ended up being banned from the forum.

*Edit: Actually, upon rereading that hours later; it sounds like George was banned for having an opinion. That wasn't the problem, opinions are like....well, I guess we all know what they're like. He was banned for not respecting other peoples opinions. And respect is about all it comes down to. Just ask Aretha.PaulB38839.2058796296

Paul, I've thought of that, and I believe folks do kind of lose some good judgement when the sauce is flowing.

I'm a newbie here with only a few posts, but I've already
said things in posts which I regret, not for content,
but because how I said something can be most important..
I'm hoping to be more circumspect in the future, while
still saying what I mean (after I know what it is..).

Consider also that guitar building takes some dedication. Even as addicting as it is, after one or two or ten some people may just move on.

I would bet that I am not the only computer-guy type who has learned that you can get answers you need by telling someone else how you think things will work/should work.

Back in the 70's, some work friends and I 'invented' the "Progammer Dummy". What you'd do is set the (virtual) programmer dummy next to you and explain to it how a section of code is supposed to work. In the process of verbalizing what you'd only been thinking about, you would suddenly get a clearer picture of what you really want to do.

Maybe the same thing will work around here?

Thanks Russel, i really enjoyed the listening, especialy the Deptford Cakewalk! I knew your guitars sounded great after i had heard David Kilpatrick some time ago, sure would love to hear you play tho but i'm sure you're just being humble there too, i guess i will have to swim hard across the pond to convince you to play for me huh?
