OK someone has to know about this, on the ASIA ad it shows a side dot that has a white circle with black in it, WHERE DO I FIND THOSE!!!!!

I gotta gotta gotta have some, I have 2 guitars that those would look KILLER on..

Paul, you could easily make your own. Inlay a short piece of tubing, then fill the cavity with black goo. I've made a few sets of bridge pins that way. Brass tubing looks good. At first. I've never been able to keep it from eventually turning green. Aluminum tubing, polished to a high luster, will look nice under lacquer and stay that way.

Also, Gold tubing and Platinum tubing is available from jewelry supply houses and is actually decently inexpensive.

Ah, yes, I remember the product called "lollies" that were a truly retched sucker but had a straw-like stick made of dense plastic instead of that paper product. You could chew on that stick for hours...
I think that would be a good route but seams a little big for side dots.

Seriously. I have done this several times, both as side dots and as fingerboard dots. It really works best on an ebony board. It is very easy to do. Just poke the rod down in the hole, pack the interior tight with ebony dust, wick in some water thin CA and level.

I sometimes worry that the dots on the fingerboard will tarnish in time, but I found that Rio Grande supply sells gold and platinum hollow tubing of various diameters. You can buy it in pieces as short as 6" and it is surprisingly reasonable.... 6" goes a long way.

Try it in some scrap with aluminum or brass and you will see what I mean... it is very easy, and I think it is a very classy look.bpoling38419.3804166667

Hi Sprockett! I use for this small Aluminium and Brass Tubings with 2mm and 2,5mm Diameter. Insidediameter is 1,2 and 1,5mm. For the cap use epoxy with color.
Gives a classy touch to the guitar.

I'm working on an 'Experimental' guitar based on the Olson SJ body, with a cedar top, cedar bracing, cedar lining and walnut back and sides and this seemed like a perfect fit for it

You can also "fit" shell dots inside the tubing, available at hobby shops as mentioned. I have done this several time on both the side and face of the fingerboard. Aluminum, brass and copper are nice, but the gold and silver from Rio Grande will be "upscale".

No. Rio Grande is kind of weird to buy from. I ultimately sprung for a catalog for $10. It was a good investment... there is a lot of neat stuff in there.

I might be able to copy the pages from the book and then fax them to you if you want. That way you could avoid the hassle of getting the catalog.

Or... tell me what you think you are interested in and I can dig up a part number and price for you.

Hank's right. This is a classy look called--in violin circles--a Parisian eye. I've used silver tubing in bridge pins with a little 1.5mm pearl dot. Really an elegant look. Got the dots from Rescue Pearl.
As for the tubing tarnishing on the fretboard (or bridge pins), at least they aren't covered over w/ finish. They can easily be rubbed back to a nice shine. But for the side of a fretboard I'd go for silver or plutonium.

Here you go... a few options.

Silver. 0.D. .064" I.D. .044" 6 piece minimum (12" each) price $1.75 each. #100-902

(This seems a little big to me, but it is the smallest silver in the catalog)

Gold. O.D. .048" I.D. .032" 2 piece minimum (12") $25.81 each #600-704

If you want silver, you might ask them if they have white gold in the same parameters as the yellow gold. Sometimes I have found items that are not listed in the catalog simply by asking.

Also, if you go with gold (and since they are $25 each, you might be able to go in with someone to take the second piece off your hands).

There are also some little hollow square ones that might be cool if you rocked them up on their sides and make them into a diamond orientation.... but cutting the wholes for them might not be much fun...
