Hi I found this good online video rental site similar to what netflix does. The have a lot of hard to find technical videos to rent. They have luthiery section. I just ordered Frank Finocchio guitarmaking video set. I'm waiting for it to arrive. I think this site is worth checking out for us beginners and pros alike. They have some good video sections you cant find at blockbuster or anywhere else. After I get the videos I let you's know how their service is and what I think.

I've rented dozens of videos from that site, and I can say that the service is execellant! There are many subjects available besides the well stocked luthery section, including a good library of music instruction videos. Rental price is $10 including shipping both ways, and you can keep the video for a week. The 'savings' have more than paid for the price of my DVD recorder.........wink, wink, nod, nod.

Thanx-a-million Butt....just ordered a batch from them...the only thing that'd make these guys better is if they had unlimited "keeping" time like NetFlix...but then we'd all be on a waiting list I suppose!

Hope you don't mean your illegally recording other peoples hard work. I
know I depend on video sales to a small extent and if someone were to
bootleg my videos it would be money directly out of my pocket. If you
enjoy the videos (I'm not talking about mine..just in general terms) then
support the person/s that made and produced the video by buying it.

John Mayes I understand what your talking about. I hate spending good money on something I'm not sure is worth it. After I review these videos and if I like them I'll buy them from stew-mac. I see they have your videos too. After I send these back i'm gonna check out some of you set's.

Yep, it's the same as downloading a buncha music instead of buying cds...I don't want to start anything here, but I've always been a "sample on limewire" then buy the cd if I like it guy...cds and dvds are the result of a person's intellectual and physical efforts, and he/she deserves to be compensated for these efforts...otherwise, it's stealing!

Copying film and audio is actually 'fair use' around here (legal to have a copy for personal use even if you don't own the original, though it doesn't apply to software, and you're not allowed to share said copy), but I always buy something if I think it's worth it. Encourage the maker to make more!

Ethically, it's dodgy. But it's perfectly legal in the Netherlands. Not anywhere else that I've read of, though...

Also as a side note, many of these videos can be gotten from the author of the DVD on eBay; at $10/dvd from TVR you may find it's just as expensive to rent and burn as it is to just buy from the source directly. Many times there is also print material that you get to keep if you buy it as opposed to renting it.

I just returned dvds from my first rental with this company. They were in good shape, probably new, and the shipping case was sturdy. Unlike Netflix, I got kind of nervous about when the week's rental started and ended.

Basically, I spent 10 bucks each to view subject matter that I wouldn't pay full price to own. ("Basic inlay techniques and Gourmet Guitars #1) NOW, I know I won't want the Gourmet series (unless one of you guys is interviewed )- nice stuff but I wouldn't know a Les Paul from a Fender by the sound. And inlay looks both tougher and more simple than I thought. When I get my boxes as tight as I would like - maybe I will check out advanced inlay.

I would like to reiterate what John Mayes was saying about intelectual property. It is important that we support the artists and originators of music and video by purchasing their works legaly. By doing so we help provide an income stream to those who have worked so hard to produce create for the rest of us.

Below is posting from another site refering to Hawaiian muic and CD's but the thought is same.

I need your help in choosing Hawaiian music for a CD I plan to compile for my secretaries. Most of the secretaries are not very familiar with Hawaiian music. What I am looking for is a variety of styles but looking for the best of the best from classic to contemporary. I will be legally purchasing and downloading the music and as of result of being legal my choice may be fewer that I might wish. Yes, I know that I could just rip and burn the songs from my own collection but that would not be proper. The artists justly deserve payment (even if its small) for their talent and creativity. In fact, I would urge everyone to legally purchase your music for burning to CD’s or for use in you IPODs. An increase in legally purchased Hawaiian music will lead to better future availability and increased income to the Hawaiian music industry and artists.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to rant and rave but it rings of truth. Every time I try to play a song on my ukuleles I remember how much I appreciate the skill and talent of real musicians.

Mahalo

Philip
