Rich Altieri asked a great question about documenting an acoustic guitar build step by step here on the OLF. What occurred to me was that there were a bunch already out there on the web. So, would you list any documented builds that you know of out there on the net. Just a great idea, especially for folks who haven't spent five years on the web doing this already.

I'll go find one and come back to make the first post.

Jim Kumorek built a Martin Kit, he also put up a sound file at the end.

I've been posting all my guitar making stuff on my blog. It's not very well organized, but there are lots of pictures and I try to give detailed explanations when I can. I post the screwups as well as the fixes as I make them. I found that part lacking on some of the other sites, which is why I do that. I can see why, though, it's a bit embarassing to post the screwups.

I'm a noob, though, and the guitars are still in progress, so take it all with a grain of salt if you're looking for advice or whatever. After the two current builds are complete, I think I'm going to make an index page so it makes it easier to follow each build in order.letseatpaste38844.3328009259

I'm all for that. I'm just now starting to crawl out from an avalanche of day-job work over the last few months, it'd be fun to get away for a visit.

I think it would be neat to have a separate forum section for people to post their builds. Then you just have one thread per build, and people can comment and ask questions. The non-"s" forum has a section for buildoff threads like that for their contest, which was fun even though I didn't finish in time. We could do it sans contest, just an ongoing thing. I'd keep doing my blog, but once I have pics uploaded to my webhost, it's not much effort to go post them in a forum.

Well, There are dozens of complete builds documented on the "other" forum - luthierforum.com. Just search around over there and you will find them. Everything from rank newbies to Cumpiano. Every style of guitar and a few other instruments that you can imagine. And you will see the mistakes and fixes there as well as the jigs and fixtures and a whole lot more.

I personally have three complete builds posted there, My prototype adjustable neck build (which last time I printed it out was over 150 pages), a wenge back and side OM that I built for my Grandson, and my latest cocobolo SJ (in the Buildoff threads under "whitespruce's" build.)

I have found a couple models over there that are very purty and knocked my socks off - incl a couple parlors by a guy named Steve Stephens I think his name is. No not the guitarist from Billy Idol. I dont think.
Usually its difficult to check it out as its pay membership, but I think they have a trial period where you can check out the site for a bit first for free.

Membership at the other forum is free, same as here. Subscribers get access to other areas of the site, like the blogs.

Yep, it is indeed Steve Stevens. He is a great builder, and has come up with some very fresh and innovative ideas with his builds.

Steve Stevens - not Stephens - my mistake.
I'll say he's talented - Im really impressed with his work on new spins on traditional designs, as well as his archtops,...... very nice - Im going to attempt a small bodied guitar as my first and I have read and re-read his parlor build thread a few times and prolly will read it many more before Im finished.

I've done detailed threads on another forum of the four guitars I have started.
Here is my third guitar thread with almost 300 replies and well over 12,000 views.
My first guitar thread was a lot of fun with a lot of detail.
I had a lot of help from luthiers that posted.
Tim McKnight helped out tons on the third guitar with his frequent posts, encouragement and great tips and advice. SteveS38853.4810185185
