Bent the sides for my second guitar today. Practiced on some maple and mahogany from Stewmac. Straight-grain koa from Doug Kleist, blanket and rheostat from John Hall. Followed the advice of posters here, and it went off without a hitch. Thanks, guys!!

Pat,

It is very exciting huh! I remember my 1st bend, I was so nervous I could hardly take a breath. Man I was psyched when it turned out perfect! Of course, I screwed up the rest of the box and ended up sending it to guitar heaven. But those sides looked nice none the less.

Way to go Pat! What was the thickness of the sides you bent?

I just finished my home-made bender this afternoon and will probably be attempting to bend a test set later this week provided I get the thickness correct. I've got a few "test" sets of mahogany that I will be using.

I'll have to take a few photos of the outcome...

Side thickness is .09. My bender was just a simple form, two pieces of 3/4" birch shop ply, bolted together 6" apart with spacers made of conduit, covered with scrap sheet metal from my old furnace, common hardware store hooks screw eyes, with cauls made of scrap pine.

Serge, no pics yet on this build, though I'll probably regret it if I don't start soon.

Pat i do encourage you to take pics and share, i for one benefitted from your tutorial on your first build where i learned go bar deck making and other tips as well. everybody benefits from it, even the pros who'd be talking taxes without us newbs and to add a bit more, i could also use some of your craftman's skills! Mine suffer!
