Hi all, I managed to glue in a neck slighlty crooked on an electic guitar. I used LMI white, and have been trying to figure out how to release it and re-glue it. The neck joint is essentially like a bolt on, it is just glued in. Basically just no heel. I don't have a heat gun, but I was trying a blow dryer and I blistered the KTM-9 that was on the body. please help.

John Your post is not being ignored, it's just probably on the wrong board. I work on electric guitars as well, just glued in a Les Paul style neck today, but I've never had to remove one. So this is a semi educated way that I would probably tackle it. I would adapt my neck steamer by making a block to contain the steam. Then the body would need to be protected around the neck. Have plenty of towels ready to dry the condensation, then steam away. Once it's hot and damp enough it should pop loose.

Mostly, heat guns and blow dryers strike me as a very bad way to get the heat where it needs to be: the glue joint, nowhere else.

Thanks, I ended up buying a heat gun and a putty knife to get in the joint and getting it loose. I still ended up blistering the KTM-9 some more, but i was already going to have to fix the first blister. I thought about steam, but I didn't know how to focus the steam just on that joint, I didn't want the fingerboard or the top of the body coming loose. Anyway, lesson learned, don't mess up the neck in the first place.

Hi Mustang

The concern I have with the heat gun is burning the wood. Figuring out
how to make a neck steamer was tricky for me too. I wasn't sure how a
1/16" needly wouldn't be bigger than a fret slot :D Then realized the
metal of the fret covers the hole. But stuff a heat proof tube with a little
air pump needle over a tea pot spout, and you'll be ok.

I'll have to look around I thought I had direction's on how to make a steamer from a coffee maker. But that would be the way to remove it.
