You think, on the Glock? I have never much cared for that gun. IMHO, it jumps around too much for a 9mm. The 92FS is a rock -- but obviously a much larger frame.

Average person can't hit a barn door with a 1911 beyond 25 yards, no wonder the military went with the Baretta 9mm.

Prior to the 1911 .45 cal auto the military used a .38 cal, but found the .38 had no 'stopping power'. The enemy would just 'keep coming'. The 1911 .45 was designed to use a low velocity, heavy weight slug, intended for 'very close combat' situations, such as trench warfare. If you 'Do Hit' someone with a 1911 within its intended range of 10 to 20 yards, it will not only 'stop them', but probably propel them backwards, or dismember them. Beyond 50 yards the 1911 is almost useless, unless using 'hopped up' target ammo.

The old 1911 does feel, look, and sound nice if you like 'tradition', but the higher velocity Baretta is probably better in today's combat situations, and a lot more accurate at range.

That gunbroker site did yield a couple of listings for something dear to me, the Russian Moisin Nagant Sniper rifle. Any of you guitar & gun enthusiast's into these?

I know diddly about guns, but Mythbusters did a thing on this: they even shot their crash-test dummy with something absurd like a 50 caliber (as in, absurdly huge...may have the number wrong), and even that did nothing at all in terms of propelling anything backwards. It's all hollywood, baby...

I was a keen target pistol shooter before the private ownership of handguns was banned in the UK in 1997. I had to hand in 10 pistols when the ban came in (but they did have to give me ?6000 compensation). These included my custom .45 National Match built for practical pistol comps, and a rare custom .38/45acp a .45ACP necked down to .38, giving .357Mag ballistics in the 1911 configuration, also for practical pistol comp. I had a Glock and a Beretta 92, and if my life depended on it I would reach for the Glock every time. Oh nostalgia!

Come on everyone-can you imagine this thread over there? Enough said on that topic. The second handgun I shot at age 11 was my Dad's National Match 1911. I have had an addiction to them ever since and like Al, have built some. However, even with all of that background,after you sell Brock, I highly recommend a Sig P229 .40 cal. For "business" it is without a doubt the most reliable and functional first shot double action semi-auto I have. It is a premier duty weapon for many LE agencies. I shoot qualification with our Sheriff's Dept regularly ( they use it).If I had to bet my life on one, the 1911 or P229.

Back when I owned a machine shop I built a copy of a Winchester High Wall in 45-70. I still have it not a pistol, but it shure lets you know when you shoot it. I let it sit around in the white for years, and finally sent it out to be blued. If I ever get it back I'll post some pics.

I own several pistols and revolvers. No SIGs, Glocks, or Barretas, though. Of all the ones I own, my favorite is my 1911 A1. Second favorite would have to be my .22 Ruger Mark II Government model. Dang thing's so accurate, it's almost boring.

I have a friend who owns a couple of Glocks (9mm and .45 ACP) and a SIG in .357 -- the necked down cartridge that they developed. He loves 'em. I've shot his Glocks, and I found them to be very easy to like. Accurate, comfortable, minimal recoil -- even the .45 ACP.

I really dig my Springfield 1911 full size, but it is indeed not the best for
long range, but only because it has GI sights and they are so miniscule!
However I feel confident with it, as I practice with it a lot, and when it's
launching a 230 grain hollow point slug... well that packs a whollop!

I hunt deer here in Iowa with a handgun. With 230 gr. hollowpoint a decent 1911 will drop a 6 point buck at 30 yards. I use a 1911 that I built as a hot hardball gun with Novak adjustable sights-sighted in for dead on at 30 yards. My other deer gun is a S&W 629 Classic with 6 1/2" barrel. It is better for longer ranges, out to 75 yards-two hand hold, lots of practice- 240 gr. hollowpoint hot loads. I'm working on a Les Baer slide/frame combination right now( well,like my guitar progress, right now could be a year)for myself. The 1911 "Deergun" is a Colt Delta lower and Baer components top. Brock- sell and then Al and I could build an OLF(tm) Special 1911 with walnut and abalone inlayed presentation box. MT-chuckle,chuckle-don't know how to get those little round guys over into a post.

oh and I forgot to mention I got a cool cowboy single action gun from my
grandfather who just passed away. IT's a clone of a Ruger super
blackhawk 44 Mag with a 7 1/2" barrel! It is cool indeed...

I have to disagree with crowduck I can hit a man sized target at 25 easily I can in a pinch at prone hit a man at 100 with my 1911 and it is not even a nice tight match model but a chinese copy thats box stock. The .45 will NOT throw a person back thats just urban legend the gun someone should chose should do 2 things go BANG every time and be comfortable for the person shooting 25 rounds every week is better then 500 every 6 months. If was recommending a gun I would say stick with .40 or 45ACP not GAP and practice practice practice ok Im off my sopa box

Back in the ninties a few nut cases (separate incidents) went ballistic with assault rifles and mowed down a bunch of innocent people.
