Is anyone using real wood for inlay on their fingerboards? I would think something like koa dots with a koa rosette would be a nice look. I know its a minor cosmetic thing but would definitely add that custom touch wouldn't it? I realize you couldn't get too intricate with it but for something like dots or rectangles would be a nice touch

Why couldn't you get intricate? Larry Davis sells resin impregnated woods (including Koa) that stuff will wear like the kitchen sink. I think it would look great.

In fact, seems like I saw a photo recently of some artist using koa for the "vines" on the vine fretboard inlays. Can't remember where I saw it, but it was incredible.

Also, remember that Taylor guitars has used wood lots on their fretboard inlays: running horses, the John Denver model, etc.

Here are some pictures of ukuleles from Dave Means that use a center wood inlay in a rope pattern. I happen to like the look and plan to use it in a future project.
