Serge,

Wasn't it Levon Helm who was the mechanic in The Right Stuff?

Said "far' 'nuff" when Sam Shepard as Chuck Yeager hit him up for a stick of Beeman's IIRC.

Levon Helm's daughter sings in a band called Ollabelle ... Their cd is good, rootsy americana soul type stuff. There are some song samples on their website.

Yeah, Andy
That's where I first saw him, too. Doing duets with just a guitar and a tuba. Awesome. Then I bought everything he had (on 8-track), then bought them all again on cd's. His first four or five were wonderful. Man I miss the old SNL.

Redbones version of "Harvest Moon" is a classic of all classics, his 30's style music was awesome. I saw something about him in the last several months.

Alain, thanks for this great thread, i wanna disagree with Hesh but i can't find a good reason though!

Pat, the first time i saw Levon helms face was this year only when The Band appeared on an A&E special, i then remembered and put a face on the guy my uncle used to talk about and i really was impressed with the talent they had and found it sad that they had to stop their music, they were really great, especially when they were singing that song "Evangeline". As for the right stuff, i could not tell, i'd have to see that great movie again, sorry.

Jay, i just listened to OLLABEELE and it was great american music i heard there, thanks for sharing bud!

WOW - broad range of music among this group and based on preferences you can guess a broad range of ages

Surprised no Beatles fans here among us. The Beatles is what brought me to guitar playing some 40 years ago and I still love those old songs.

Also early Dylan, CSN, Eagles, Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, James Taylor, and on and on.

These days working on learning more fingerpicking styles like acoustic blues. Watching Happy Traum DVD's mostly these days trying to learn to play something other than chords.

Eric Roache, Martin Carthy, Bert Jansch, Catherine Tickell, Ewan McColl/Peggy Seeger, Pentangle, Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention. Then of course there's Yes, Pink Floyd, early Genesis, Jethro Tull. Anything by Vivaldi, Maria Callas, Collard. Oh and then there's Robert Johnson, Son House, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Blake, Blind Willie McTell, Blind Willie Johnson (bit of a theme here) Gus Cannon's Jug Stompers, Lonnie Johnson, Woody Guthrie, John Mayall etc.

Basically if it's good music I'll listen to it, except if it requires you to wear a big hat indoors, and a dread'!

Colin

Yeah, The Band, and Talking Heads - how did I leave them out?

But my main forget - Mingus! How could I have left out Mingus?

Julian Bream and a few other classical guitarists get heavy rotation these days, but I'm building 2 or 3 and I'm hoping for osmosis to work.

If it don't have George Jones or The Hagg in it, well it ain't worth listenin to. I do like Blue Grass.
When it comes to that c-rap stuff, I'd rather have a ice pick stuck up my nose.

Clay Aiken RULES!!!! Okay, just kidding!

Actually, for guitar related stuff, nothing beats Doyle Dykes for me...I can only play a fraction of his stuff, but man, it's enough to make you want to practice 24/7 for a year straight or sell your guitar! Laurence Juber, Chet, Ed Gerhard, and Benson round out the guitar stuff...that said, I mainly have had CCM on the radio or CD player for the last 10 years...Shane and Shane, Todd Agnew, Jason Upton, Brian Litrell, DC Talk, Blake Easter...I tried to bring out all my old "kid days" rock and metal, but even though I appreciate it, I'm just not there anymore...it's message isn't for me at 43 I guess....
Rush

Limbaugh, not the band from Canada, although they are good. Ted Nugent is OK, too.
Dear BB,

If getting that out got you to post, Good for you! Welcome to the forum!

Personally, I'm another classical sicko. I'm also starting to get into some opera.

I know, I'm beyond help...

I had to passs up an invitation to go and listen to the Toledo Symphony rehearse this week. Bummer, but it was for a good reason.

Regards, Steve
